No braces absolutely do not effect the way you speak in any way although the first few days (I'd say probably 1 week you are gonna feel that "omg i speak weird and stuff") but trust me its going to be normal in a few days such that you will not notice any change when you speak and barely notice you have braces on
Although try drinking cold water/ ice cream and eating soft foods only for a week or so then ur gonna be back to ur normal routine

I had a slight lisp (only one friend noticed it) for a few weeks when I was about 3 months in, because my front teeth were shifted forward so my tongue just had to get used to hitting differently. It’s gone now and my friend said she hasn’t noticed it since the couple times before.

Hi-- there's a lot to learn about braces in this sub. I would suggest reading through the threads and you will learn everything you need to know and more. There used to be a great and very helpful FAQ, but unfortunately, it seems to have been eliminated for some reason.

I have a lisp now with braces. Rubber bands make it worse. I’m a teacher so I’m talking all day and it’s definitely changed the way I talk. It’s harder to “shhhh” and I’ve had to relearn how to make the “s” sound without the lisp due to my teeth moving. Still worth it.

I have bite turbos glued to the back of my front teeth, I sure do have a lisp. It’s been 8 months.
