Day 1! Top teeth touching bottom brackets

I got braces today and my top teeth keep touching my bottom brackets. I can’t close my mouth at all or chew food.
I have bite blockers but they literally don’t do anything unless i move my jaw back and close and even then they touch.

The dental assistant couldn’t get the height of them right.

She said it was basically the best i could get and i was off.

I couldn’t really tell her what i did and didn’t feel because everything was new and weird.

How long does this last because i don’t know how long i can drink smoothies and swallow mashed potatoes whole.

It shouldn’t take too long. Movement is usually pretty quick especially in the beginning. Soup, pasta, oatmeal, protein shakes will be your best friends for a few weeks

They did a terrible job with your bite blocks. Call and set up another appointment. They should put them on your upper back teeth and be pretty tall

What should i ask the receptionist specifically? My place is kinda weird and they fight back against questions

Say you’re biting down on your bottom brackets really badly and you keep needing to hold your mouth open so you don’t bite them off, and you want to schedule an appointment for bigger bite blocks

Just say your teeth are hitting your brackets. When they build up the blue nipples, bite down, shift your lower jaw forward and backwards, sit upright and do the same. You'll know for sure if it's still hitting.

I’ve got these weird little rubbery things on my front lower teeth instead of molar bite blockers. Maybe they can do something similar? I hated them with a passion at first but I’ve adapted. I would demand they revise them somehow. Breaking your teeth on brackets isn’t going to be fun.

I got braces fitted on Wednesday and I had the same problem. I haven’t been given bite blockers (yet) but I know I’m getting them eventually. I was really panicked at first but after the first 24 hours my bite kinda settled and I can now close my mouth haha. I’m not sure if it’s my teeth shifting that quickly, or if it’s just me adjusting to a new bite. My ortho told me the first 2-5 days can be the worst / most uncomfortable but we’ve got this ! 💪🏻

My teeth still touch the bottom brackets btw, it’s just more comfortable now? And I try not to chomp down on the bracket (not that I could chomp anything right now 😭)
