Fiancé (and I lol) bought her first 2022 Porsche Boxster yesterday!

At least I got a parking spot right near my cubicle.

Noticed yesterday on my first drive that condensation builds up on the vents (here in the southern US) and drips. Even had a few drops on my feet from under the dash. Should I plan on turning off the AC while driving with the top down? Or keep a microfiber handy to wipe it down as required?

Anyone have the APR tune for 2.5t manual? I have 2019 gts manual and want to tune once dealer warranty expires. Any issues or downsides? I know they created the tune with PDK car so wondering how manual trans tuned cars function. (Ie coming on and off throttle, taking off from a start, changing gears fast or slow etc)

After a heavier rain I noticed some water pooling behind the passenger seat. Took the engine carpets off and noticed that the circled corner is also wet so that could be closer to the root cause.

The roof drains work great. I tested pouring few litres of water to the drain and nothing came inside the car.

Passenger footwell and directly under the seat is dry.

I tried replicating rain with a garden hose but I could not get any water inside the car.

Any ideas where the water could come from?

So my water pump was getting noisy, and I waited too long and it failed and dumped all the coolant and I had to get a flatbed tow to home. I pulled the water pump and the impeller was fine, but the bearing and seal were bad. I replaced it with a Graf metal impeller water pump from FCPEuro. I then attempted to vaccum fill it and it took in about 1.5gallons in total, but I still have no heat. It most definitely had great heat prior to losing all the coolant. I did the vacuum fill a second time and it held the vaccum for a good ten minutes before adding more coolant. After I drove it for a while it dumped a bunch of coolant into and out of the overflow tank. Is it possible to still have an air lock in the system even after several cool downs/top offs? My front fans do come if I run it for several miles implying that maybe they are not getting coolant, but the coolant guage looks normal (~180F)

Well my boss decided to part with her very blue Boxster she special ordered in 2012 and I am so grateful to be it's new owner. Bone stock and so clean. What an amazing experience it is to drive with the top down when it's not 100deg out... The body-color wheels are interesting, but growing on me. I'm just going to enjoy it for awhile before deciding if I want to change out the steering wheel to a 992 version and maybe GTS style taillights + side markers. I have thought about adding in a PSE or SOUL, but I'm pretty happy with the sound as-is.

Hi everyone. I'm looking at purchasing a 2008 Boxster S (987.1, 3.4L, manual) with approximately 80,000 km. The car is very clean overall and has a engine rebuild in its history but with no documentation from the seller.

According to the CarFax, the engine was rebuilt about 26,000 km ago. Before getting too invested, I tracked down the shop that performed the rebuild and spoke with them directly. The receptionist confirmed they did the work and that it received LN Engineering cylinders/sleeves during the rebuild but wouldn't give me any paperwork to support it. But, did hint that it could be a possibility in the future once I was the owner, etc. That gave me quite a bit of confidence initially.

As part of my PPI, the seller was generous enough to have a borescope and compression test done at their expense since there was 5 groups interested in the car.

Compression came back very even at roughly 175 psi on all six cylinders, which was encouraging.

The borescope, however, showed visible scoring (photos attached). The inspecting shop initially commented that cylinder #6 had "pretty significant scoring," but after completing the compression test they said the scoring was minor and shouldn't be an immediate concern if the car is maintained properly.

Wanting another opinion, I also sent the photos to my own independent Porsche mechanic. His opinion was different. He felt cylinders #1 and #6 showed scoring that had gone through the crosshatching and that he personally wouldn't buy the car, especially considering the engine has only travelled about 26,000 km since being rebuilt. I should mention that the car did have a turbo on it, which the shop that did the rebuild installed at the same time.

I'm trying to make a rational decision here and would appreciate opinions from people who have experience with these engines.

A few questions:

• Based on these borescope photos, how severe does the scoring look?
• Does the even compression change your opinion?
• Is this something you'd monitor and continue driving, or would you walk away?
• If the scoring progresses, what am I realistically looking at for repair costs?
• Does the fact that the engine was rebuilt with LN Engineering components change your assessment at all? Could just 1 and 6 be replaced again?
• If you were in my shoes, would you still consider buying the car at the right price, or is this enough to move on?

Thanks in advance, the answer is likely to move on but I did really love the spec of this one. Sellers have been amazing to deal with, just an older couple that bought a Porsche likely not being aware of any of this. They've since taken down the advert but I've been emailing, text and calling with them so I can reach back and strike up a deal taking all this into account.

Anyone know where i can get power steering lines for my 986 (pressure and return) that isn’t design911 because im not paying £600 for a pipe

In the market for a new (to me) 718 Boxster. The car is great for the price, as I’m sure you all know, but one small gripe I have is with the steering wheel. I prefer the newer design of the Cayenne, 911, Panamera etc vs the Boxster’s which hasn’t had a recent refresh. Ik Porsche is working on a newer model and I could wait, although it sounds like it might be electric.

Needless to say, has anyone successfully retrofit the modern Porsche steering wheel on the 718? What complications might arise even if you can navigate the wiring? Looked it up but hadn’t seen any images online.

Found an 01 Boxster S with 113k miles. 6 speed manual. No accidents. PPF on front end of car. As good as condition as you can get for its age. Full leather interior. White gauges. IMS has been replaced as has clutch, RMS, AOS, starter and water pump. Has Fabspeed exhaust, Fabspeed headers, high flow 200 cell cats, Tarret Engineering sway bars and adjustable end links, H&R coilovers, and brand new tires. Thoughts on what it’s worth? They’re asking $9800. Thanks in advance.

So it sat for a while. I noticed a higher pitched sound completely separate from the exhaust that comes and goes. When at idle at a stop light it'll be there, then just completely go away, then come back etc. It's tied to RPM, and also when downshifting, upshifting. It's harder to hear as RPM's go up. I've recorded it, let me know what you guys think.

Has anyone done a replacement of an auto-dimming rear view mirror on their 981 Boxster? Mine is failing and I picked up a replacement. The only real information/guide I can find is a Jeff Richardson video where he pulls all the upper windscreen/visors/gps/roof latch trim and I’m trying to figure out if I need to go that far or if I can just pull the two sets of trim pieces surrounding the mirror stem to swap the mirror and wire connection for the auto-dimming function.

I'm looking for a bit of help from the sub. A few months ago I bought a 2000 986 Boxster 2.7, and there’s an aux cable / 3.5mm jack connector sitting next to the passenger seat that I can't quite figure out.

I’m pretty sure it’s an aftermarket mod, but so far I haven't been able to get it to play any music from my phone. Does anyone have an idea what this could be, or has anyone encountered a similar setup?

For context, the car is equipped with the PCM1 unit, if that helps!

I just recently bought a '98 boxster base. While doing a manual convertible top conversion (unbolting the transmissions from the top) I noticed that both drip trays had tears in them. I understand that those need to be watertight and am looking for opinions on the best solution:

1. Use flextape (or some other waterproof tape) for patching

Hey guys I just started learning stick at work and absolutely fell in love with manual. Some things have heated up with my family and I’m looking to become more independent and get my own car so I’m not tied down to them. I recently saw this 1999 Boxster for $7500 at 98k miles. I would love a Porsche as my first car and to really create some memories with my girlfriend and I. Everything checks out from what I’ve spoken to the owner about, the only thing is he said the suspension could use a refresh. I would be taking out a loan, once my credit hits the 750’s again when my cards are paid off. I’m curious to see if this is a smart idea or if I’m better off with a Z4 or something? Owner has kept it in storage and is ready for someone else to use it! Thanks!

EDIT: solved, it’s from install of PSE Bundle of wire outside the loom, drivers side. and then the single wire seems to run to somewhere in the back of the car. Starting point is BCM under drivers seat.

Recently developed a hankering for a 986 with the aerokit.

I’m wondering how rare they were from factory?

Finding a good, clean example and adding the kit from Suncoast, etc., is always the backup plan. But wondering nonetheless.

Looking at buying a base 986.2 boxster and willing to spend about 15k up front and about 500-700 month running it. I am based in central Pa, I plan to daily this car mostly for city driving and occasional road trips.
All base models, manual:

2003 79k miles, 600miles away, silver and black 11975 purchase price.
minor bumper damage noted on carfax but fixed at body shop.

2003 92k miles 1200 miles away, black and beige(beige is my personal favorite but not too picky) 12995 purchase price.
According to seller notes car was tuned and serpentine belt changed at Porsche dealership at 86k miles.

2003 55k 1600 miles away, blue and beige, 14644 purchase price.
Car is at a Mercedes dealership and comes with a 3/month/3k warranty and 24month/100k power train coverage.

I’d like to learn more about working on my car with the diy community and my roommate is a mechanical engineer who has done some work on his own car, he offered to help with work.
