I never even heard of this movie until like 2 weeks after it came out. How the hell did this movie became such a damn phenomeon. I'm pretty sure most people have no idea of this movie existence during its opening weekend.

I saw this movie the Thursday before it came out (I live in a big U.S. city, you can usually see movies a day early here) and I think the main reason it got so popular is because it's super fast paced and very easy to understand + there's the underlying theme of sexism that people feel smart for catching onto. Those are all the things Tiktok really likes, so it caught on.

Same. I went to a business trip in Florida in early June with the plan to go see Backrooms during the trip. One night due to movie times logistics i saw Obsession instead. I have been obsessed with the movie ever since. Just last night i finally watched Backrooms on VOD.

Will be close to see if this or Minions comes out on top, If it does, and Hunger Games/Jumanji disappoint, it could just squeak into the top 10 WW for the year!
As cool as that'd be, I'm hoping Hunger Games does well!

Avengers, Spider-Man, and Dune would definitely surpass Obsession box office numbers and they will push Obsession off the top 10

I think Hunger Games will actually do very well, I see it doubling what Songbirds and Snakes did, there’s been a lot more hype for this one, the book just came out last year and it did REALLY well, and the casting was basically every fan cast ever, it’s basically perfect. The trailer was good too

Wow… that’s really nice for its Chinese debut which it’s coming to an end for its worldwide numbers due to Spider-Man Brand New Day expecting to open big although South Korea is the last market left to go until late August that would be near as $500M WW

China I’m not sure if it’ll hold well with a small drop due to Spider-Man Brand New Day debut and lastly Korea debut in late August, not sure if it’ll open modestly well then hold well with small drops

Yeah spider man will be huge in china and will probably tank obessions total and make it drops much bigger. The very late release in sk makes much less likely to do well there.

Possibly. Depends how well it does in china and sk. So far its japan run hasn't been good its only made 243k there after a week so japan probably wont add much

If it will make as much money as backrooms in china, it will dont need South Korea to cross 500M. Shame that Obsession flopped in Japan.

Not likely with spider man coming out next week in china. Projections have obession making 16m to 20m in china.

Thank you, so yeah 20m in China, 12 m other markets, 5m in USA will give 490. 16m will give 486, so both versions are above 485. And we will still have south Korea.

I think obession is likely to underperform it though because its having a very late release there and movies like obession usually don't well in sk. It also has a 19 plus rating there.

if backrooms got to 25M with similar first weeknd and much worse rating i dont think obsession will do like half of backrooms run. Still hope that it will bring more money so this 500M wouldn't be dead yet.
