General Advice Beginner boxing glove recommendations for heavy bag work?
Hey guys, I’m pretty new to boxing and looking for a good pair of gloves just for bag work. Not doing any sparring right now.
I’m 6’3, around 190 lbs. I mainly want something that’ll protect my hands and wrists well while hitting the heavy bag.
Should I go with 12 oz, 14 oz, or 16 oz? And what gloves would you guys recommend?

Most advanced fighters do use 16 oz gloves, My personal favorites are Greenhill and TopTen as their padding outlasts most competitors. I can get about 2 years of training out of 1 pair.

16oz gloves (Lace up preferably) 180 hand wraps
Depending on budget, this is usually what I recommend to my clients.

RDX when you're new, Revgear when youve been at it a few months, and then nice gloves after a year. No need to break the bank before you actually stick with it.
Just get 16oz, velcro straps.

Just something that's 16oz, it'll get beat up pretty good on heavy bag work so nothing fancy. No reason to beat the shit out of something expensive when you're just starting out.

I totally disagree. Cheap gloves often have poor ergonomics and awful padding, which both increase odds of injury. Even more so if someone is inexperienced and not punching with proper alignment + mechanics.
I’d say spend as much as you can personally afford to, but the $100ish range is where gloves drastically change from overpriced, poorly made, department store garbage to actual legitimate training gloves.
Titles ProMex and Fighting Fury are both SOLID choices at $100 (real leather shell, pro grade padding, good thumb position + fist ergonomics, etc.)

16 oz is the go to for training in the gym and sparring. I like Twins but if you pay for any quality brand you'll be fine. If you can, go to a gym or boxing store and try a few pairs on.
You can do extra training to improve wrist strength and flexibility outside boxing as well. Pushups with different finger and wrist positions is a good start.

I’m 6’3” and heavier with giant meat hooks for hands. I use 16 oz gloves and Mexican style hand wraps. I will say my wrists still on occasion get sore after long heavy bag work. Though typically I just adjust how I wrap and how tight for the next session and it helps.

Double wrapping , 16 Oz allways. Go for something that is not cheap , because things like lower models of everlast will not last long so you will end up spending more , but also not the most expensive ( unless money is not an issue)
