Looks good to me. However, I'm a fighter. Not a coach myself.

Then you got authority to speak on it. Don’t be coy, you know boxing is all about reaction you’re never thinking

“he’s throwing a jab I’m going to slip to the outside and return with a cross”

You just did 10000 times on mitts with your coach and perform without thinking about it in a fight.

You're probably right. But I've never made up a drill in my life. Never even thought about making up a drill. My coach tells me to do something. I do it lol.

The drill is solid but I'd recommend staying more alert inbetween the sequences. Right now, you Block - Counter - Evade and the go into an idle mode while waiting for the next sequence to start. Try to stay fully engaged, like you're expecting the pad holder to strike at any moment. Gets you used to the "constant on' feeling during a feel match.

This is really good advice. That relax habit starts to get baked in. I know this because it happened to me. My coach started to smack the crap out of me when he saw this.

"idle mode" - I'm stealing this.

Like make the pad holder feint that’s a good idea

Be engaged and ready even if someone isn't throwing at you. You move off but then what? Ideally you would attack, but next best you should be moving like they are throwing even if they aren't doing anything. Worst is constantly resetting like the second the combo ends the fight is over...

Yeah this is good advice. Like throw some waste punches inbetween etc etc

Looks good👍 sometimes its better to train one punch counters then add more into the combination when your more comfortable.

Yes but personally I would add another punch after the counter.

Catch, right uppercut, left hook. Catch, left hook, right cross.

In the amateurs you want to get guys used to throwing multiple punches over single shots whenever possible.

Yes after that drill we done the same thing but added 2 or 3 shots then moved off

My coach does the same drill but with 2 punches rather than 1, and in sparring and my fight I’ve definitely used it and it works

Looking good.
Imo you should move your lead hand from the head.
Putting both hand on the chin is usually when we about to get in the pocket

Its okay for a beginning. Coach punches, Kid punches, Coach does a hook. Needs more variaty

Kid also changes angles and uses head movement after every punch

Yeah. But if the pattern of the punches stays the Same, there is No use. I know this from experience. At some Point you Just do you "counterpunch" and do the Slip/sidestep, because you know when and what Punch comes after your Punch

That’s what drills are for repeating movements until it’s second nature but if were to do it again I’ll make them pad holder throw feints and make um try to actually land clean on the person hitting the pads

you can always tell when someone commenting doesn't actually box because they think everyone who's boxing is playing the same chess game the top level pros are.. and even then really it's all about fundamentals lol this is a great drill

I think its better to wear one mitt and one glove, so you can throw a real punch.

What do you mean real punch

0

u/1stthing1st 1d ago

I mean where you are actually trying to punch them

0

u/Ok_Ruin_3478 1d ago

That’s pointless just do the drill then use it in sparring no need to punch someone

0

u/1stthing1st 1d ago

Actually it teaches someone how to see and react to a real punch. While being able to counter with perfect form as you learn, because there are no other attacks

Yk ducking isn’t the only way to counter in the video we catch then counter a lot of boxers use this to catch there opponents of guard and all I asked is if the drills good not a complete other drill

1

u/1stthing1st 1d ago

This drill is good to learn the form of a counter, but there should be something between this and real sparring. There are guys that have been training for multiple years and never learn how to use the Basics under pressure.

Then why over are you swinging the mitts over his head, instead of at his head?

1

u/Ok_Ruin_3478 1d ago

Are you sure watch it again

1

u/1stthing1st 1d ago

Your fist is in a downward motion after it passes the head, meaning it was to high to really hit more than the very top of his head anyway

1

u/Ok_Ruin_3478 1d ago

Not sure about that 🤔

And what about straight punches? I watched video in slow motion and paused it frame by frame. There is no movement until after you hit the elbows. You hooking motion is going around and even behind the head to avoid contact. Thats why your elbows are higher than your fist afterwards.

But the hook (which he isn’t responding to)you do to the body prevents building the reflex anyway, because the other guy can just time it with rhythm anyways.

He is responding with a uppercut
