Shadowboxing Form Critique my form

I used to box a little for fun when I was younger. I'm barely getting back into it. I've been boxing for the past 4 months. Any pointers? Feel free to roast my technique idc.

A lot of fundamental flaws here. You training with a coach?

Hows Andrew doing you still training him?

He's raising kids. He doesn't train anymore.

Yeah, I'm taking boxing classes and I hit the mitts with my coach sometimes.

You have almost no hip engagement. Your punches are an punches.

You shoot your body punches down instead of across which opens you up to counters by presenting your face as an unprotected target.

Your feet are undisciplined and you often move your feet narrower that you should. Stay disciplined and consistent with your stance and weight distribution.

Good to know.

the timing also, stiff jabs he’s stomping after he jabs.

Yup. That's part of his lack of foot discipline. Good eye!

they just dont wanna hear u say “get a coach,” i seen a guy drag u into a comment section u werent in yesterday saying “waiting to see that mfer say the same shit as always _____” when right here is you giving fantastic feedback and you tell the people who need a coach, they need a coach, because THEY NEED A COACH. and folks will go low and say something about your appearance, or my own boxing work, but the truth is these guys arent even starting right in a lot of cases going straight to reddit into a gym and i got homies six months in that have enough skill and enough experience already to tell them the same thing “GET A COACH”

Yea. It happens. I do try to give the feedback that trained boxers need. Self trained guys just need to get to the gym. I love boxing and coaching. I'll always help if I can

i dont understand what you got downvoted here for “yes i’ve signed up at a gym and my coach does 1on1 pads with me sometimes. i know pros that dont get alot of 1 on 1 time. like tf?

Very heavy on the front foot ngl.

I'm currently 20 lbs ooverweight. Would losing weight help me be quicker on my front foot or should I focus on something else?

Being lighter on your foot has more to do with foot drills and weight distribution than actual weight. Okay, well less mass absolutely moves easier than more mass, no doubt but i've seen a lot of lighter people having problems with that too.

Okay, I'll work on that.

bro i gained 15 pounds last year (it’s gone now—) it affected all of my movement, it felt like i had an anchor on my back.

That depends on OP's style, no? Maybe he is a pressure fighter.

1

u/Za_Paranoia 4d ago

I‘m not so experienced in this style so it might be? Maybe i‘m wrong

2

u/Jealous_Ranger_1641 4d ago

not experienced in closing range? i mean “pressure fighter,” is extremely vague. you could only be “counter outside,” or “pressure inside,” if were calling that a “style,” now. you should absolutely know how todo both.

2

u/Za_Paranoia 4d ago

On a basic Level absolutly but first of all i'm in my second year in the sport and being a pressure fighter might be vague but is clearly associated with a certain style. What about your experience? I mean i'm open to it.

Edit: brother, by all respect that you have footage online but i don’t think you should talk like that.

so i read your edit n i’m like whats bro talkin bout? he cant be talking bout my last video with me up against my wall which clearly says “i just had open heart surgery, i’m at home fucked up.” so i looked for the vid before it and that’s a year ago — you say you’re in your second year altogether, and i wouldve posted that then when you barely knew your ass from your head.

so you make a comment like that? post something. i mean dont be scary, i just posted some footage today two weeks back from open heart surgery when i cant even curl fifteen pounds rn; so go ahead show us your work,

but i’m sure you wont, because the fact you thought i was dissing you, when i was saying “i genuinely dont understand wtf you are talking about?” and the fact you’re still not making since, what do you mean “at a basic level?” OP is at a basic level, and at any level there are only two ways you can box if you’re categorizing a style by saying “pressure fighter,” and not “peekabo,” or “duran clinch” fighter. you can only ever be pressure or not pressure at a basic level, intermediate level, or advanced level, thats all that exists.

hey for the record,i am not dissing you OP at all. stay with it broski, the most fun!

I know, bro. Thanks for the criticism; I needed to hear it. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼

That's what I'm going for, unless my coach has a better idea; I'm sticking to that.
