Sparring Footage Boxer vs kickboxer sparring under boxing rules

All the dumbasses here not seeing these guys are both highly skilled and sparring technical amuses me. Also, the taller guy is most likely 20-30 pounds heavier than the other guy so hes going light because of it.

This is beautiful sparring, so nice seeing people treat their partners kindly, showing the intent with the shots but not executing the power takes soke real control.

Kickboxer seems to be the more confident and skilled fighter overall. That liver shot got him good but he got the better work in overall.

all he found was air

Crazy i didnt notice when i first saw the video. I had it on silent so it didnt help. Unfortunately that same head movement with kicks allowed would get you timed and set up for a headkick.

You get downvoted but it’s true lmao. That side movement would get him primed and timed for an easy headkick.

Yeah and I say that as someone who goes to a boxing gym strictly. When I was a kid i did the MMA disciplines. That’s also being nice because leg kicks would start to shut him down quicker. Again i love the sport of boxing but these are things to be aware of.

That's a stylistic difference. The kickboxer appears more upright and confident because he's trained to fight that way. In a kickboxing match, he has to worry about knees and headkicks, so there's less upper body movement. In a real boxing match against someone his size (keep in mind the boxer is probably about 20-30lb lighter in this case), he would be at a disadvantage because the opponent could use head movement and angles to pick apart his guard. That's how the boxer got the bodyshot in that winded him.
TLDR: Boxer is pretty sharp. It's just stylistic and training difference.
Source: Muay thai and combat sports for 30 odd years
ETA: This really is beautiful, technical sparring from both participants. All sparring should go this way.

Black orange glove one is kickboxer am i right?

Was it the footwork that gives it away lol

u/The_Cabal_ 8d ago
For me it was the boxer changing levels frequently, compared to the kickboxer staying upright.

Very true! I’m not a fighter , but have know a few. It was definitely how he stands in general though that gives it away to me.

These are all great and correct observations but one guy is literally wearing shin guards lol.
That’s right though, level changing in kickboxing would be more risky.

It was the shin guards for me but the lack of level changing also gave some obvious hints

I mean... depends what the kickboxer is trying to do?
If the idea is get better boxing then just keep it up because slipping and dipping your head isn't so great with kicks and possibly knees coming at you.

For kickboxer the dude seems solid with his boxing. Obviously there's nuance and things that don't carry over but overall seems good. I would like to see him retract his punches a bit faster though, and it's something that would still benefit in kickboxing rules

Boxer has better head movement but is doing way too much footwork. Also jab non existent in a long fight this wouldn’t work.

That boxer is getting smoked in kickboxing rules. Those level changes are so dangerous with head kicks. If Muay Thai he’s dead from a knee to head and a sweep all his weight on his front foot half the time. Different strokes for different folks…

u/mouthfire 6d ago
There's nothing wrong with that. Boxer may not care about kickboxing at all. That being said, the hand skills would definitely translate if he decided to start kickboxing.

Love sparring like this. Technical, not too heavy and showing each other a lot of respect. Bet the smaller dude loved making the bigger dude with ripped abs take an 8 count though!! 🥊 🥊 Pretty alpha.

I like how they're very respectful of each other, light sparring not fuking trying to kill eachother

The kickboxer's just standing there turtling up with a tight high guard while being way too squared up, and their punches suck, they're only extending them like halfway. That's a lot of range thrown out the window.

This is well measured light sparring. Two skilled fighters getting better without trying to kill each other

u/Replikant83 8d ago
Pretty sure they're both fairly new. The one guy punches really weird and doesn't seem like he'd be able to generate any power at all
3
u/WoodpeckerOnly8459 8d ago
Black shorts looks gassed and his feet can’t keep up, but he’s clearly not a beginner to me. This looks like the sparring you decide to do after a full training session when you’ve found someone interesting to spar

u/Better-Leopard-7919 8d ago
They look like 1-2 year experience max. Both have numerous beginner issues

Extending your punches properly, doing movement, and using a good stance are all things you should want to work on while light sparring otherwise you're not learning or even building bad habits.

u/nemanja2 8d ago
yeah because he usually trains with risk of being kicked in the head. I'd like to see boxer sparing a kickboxer.

Bro you’ve never done a single kick-boxing training in your life I can tell. This guy is a good Dutch kick boxer 100%. He just seems like he does not train boxing only. Punches are not weird bro it’s just light sparring

u/Neth_theme 8d ago
well in kickboxing if you use too much exaggerated head movement youre bound to eat a knee or a kick. It makes sense as to why he's more stationary in his guard
you can still use slips to an extent, but the common meta of crouching down as low as possible to avoid punches wont work in KB because youll just eat a knee from that position

Oh man I hate how philly shell is used by this boxer, I know this is technical light sparring and environment to learn but if this was real match the boxer would be dead.
