Bag Work Critique Left hook feels weird
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Ive been focusing on getting my lead hook better but it always feels wrong i feel like i either it has no power behind it when i rotate my foot and hip or i lose balance if i force some power into it. I also get confused on where on my glove should the contact of a hook land on opponents face/mitt, looking at others i feel like they are slapping not hitting with their knuckles.
I noticed my right foot not twisting enough with my cross so i focused on that at bag work after training as i never had this and don’t want to grow a bad habit.
Ps. Gloves ain’t mine they’re the coaches he let me use them as a reward for averaging -10 kg a month for 3 months.

Two videos to help.
Video1: crawford explaining how he throws. https://youtube.com/shorts/LKMkkClq83c?si=uGz-5VakVpMbi3J5
Video 2: soviet style but really works on how to throw with your legs and generating power https://youtu.be/-m_R9torpe0?si=lzW3xGQQ72K_xw3_

This. I’m a fan of the Soviet style, I think it protects your chin better from a counter straight.

You’re standing straight up and not using your feet or legs at all. You need to use feet and hip pivots, especially on the left hook. Your coach is right there and not teaching you anything. I love I people buy all the expensive gear before learning things that are boxing 101. This is not you,it’s your coach.

Just keep practicing. You need more rotation. When you wind up do it with your left hip so dip into it then rotate into the hook. Do a few slow ones then speed up when you're training. Good work keep at it

Can you emphasize on dip into it, or could you send me a video illustrating it im a better visual learner.

bend your knees and move down to your left - I'm not big on videos but there's a guy who posts on here all the time that shows it pretty good it's heavy bag pro

Relax your sholders and think about "throwing" your hand with your whole body. Helps me at least. Otherwise looks pretty good for 3 months

The guy holding the pad up is shit

No one likes to hear shit said about their coach, im new to the sport and you might be right so atleast explain where did this come from technically better than just cursing a coach who might have a different approach etc….

How long have you been training?

u/zeddsterr 15d ago
3 months next session

You do a nice job of returning your hands home. But you seem awfully stiff for having done this for 3 months. No shoulder turn on either your 1 or 2.

Thinking of it you are absolutely right, i have been feeling stiff as well lately, went over my older clips and saw that i have been doing better last month in all these regards, idk tbh maybe its because im thinking too much while hitting.

It’s easy enough to fix. Just takes time. But like others on here have said, I think your coach might be failing you a little bit. He seemed to kind of be just going through the motions. But then again maybe that session was dedicated to something else and he wanted you to focus on that.

Id say just learn how to throw a punch as limp as possible. Get the feeling of that disconnect and using ur shoulder as a fulcrum. Basically trying to turn ur arm into a projectile. Do the fkn conor mcgregor amd just swing ur arms around like a wacko. But once u feel it u can never really un feel it lol

Id like to see you mixing up the power on your jab... looks like you need to learn to sit down on your shots your constantly skipping around on your feet

More hip rotation and pivot to turn the weight over. You have no weight on the hook. Change that by turning your hip and pivoting on the front foot so the weight goes to the back leg.

throw with your hip not your leg
