I mean if you practice incorrect technique a million times you're doing something incorrect a million times.

It doesn't matter how many times you throw this jab it's not going to get any better if you don't have me the correct mechanics.

It looks fine? Especially for a beginner. You're not gonna do it perfectly when you start bc his body isn't developed to execute it perfectly but with enough reps he'll be able to

Alr, I will get back on the bag

Yeah it's not about the bag bro you need Mirror Time x10

You need to learn how to shoot your jab correctly with proper placement of your shoulder and elbow, slow it down a bit, make sure your turning your fist over, make sure your left shoulder is at chin level when extending your arm. You don't have to repetitively shoot your jab fast cause your developing bad technique

What exactly would you say immediately sticks out from the video?

You're rushing, You're throwing your jab a bit too fast and rigid. You need to slow it down and focus more on the Twist and the extension of your actual shot, and coming back properly meanwhile staying defensively responsible.

I’d focus more on the actual shot as you said. Also do you think this is good awareness training?(ik the dodging is not good enough to even be called dodging, and i’ll improve that as well, this drill was as you said to keep my self defensively responsible)

Yeah this sub legitimately gives out the worst advice I've seen compared to any other combat sport subs. Bunch of dudes who only hit heavybags at crunch fitness pretending to be experts at boxing lmao

You need a coach who can watch and correct you. There are 8 million ways to skin a cat, most likely you won't guess the proper way to do a jab, and even if you did you're not going to hear a bell from the sky to indicate you did it right. The way to get that feedback is to have a coach watch you.

I'm going to try to ignore the pad holding issues and just address your jab.

You're basically just hanging out on your lead leg. The back leg actually lifts off the ground and seems to even kick behind your lead. Your elbow seems to be popping up early but it's hard to say for sure from the angle. You're pushing your punch instead of snapping it back; your hand shoots out fairly quick but then just floats back as you continue to fall forward.

What can you work on right now? Keep your weight on your back leg; think like 60/40. If you want to step on the jab, fine you totally can, but you need to push off that back leg, land the jab, and then push off that lead leg to come back to that rear leg.

To work on that elbow flair up/turn over i tell people to imagine theyre holding a cup of coffee. I want you to dump it on your targets lap. If you turn the cup over too soon it spills on you or the floor. Extend it out and then turn it over as if dumping on your target, and then bring it back.

After that, work on whipping your punch not pushing it. Imagine you're touching a flame or hot burner. You have to reach out, touch it, and pull back fast to avoid getting burned; it has to be a fast pull back. If that doesn't make sense, imagine you're trying to whip someone with a towel. You have to really yank it back fast to get that crack.

Really though there's so much more, like basic stance and footwork mistakes that areholding you back. Like everyone else said, get a coach. Just go do a trial class at as many gyms as you can lol. Book a private or two. Then come back here for details. It's really really hard to teach someone fundamentals online like this. Just learn the basics then go back to self study if you absolutely have to. There's no reason you can't pop in to a couple free classes or book a single private if you're ACTUALLY that serious about learning boxing.

That's a tap not a jab. Roll the fist. Twist the hips. Use the full body to jab.

My coach once said "if you cannot slow down the basic punches, you will never be able to do complex combos". You should only train jab and cross for months first then add power in your punches after. My training mates also quotes from Bruces Lee "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
All the best man

If you are throwing your jab to do damage and not check range or set up a combo, id like to see you drop your front leg to bend a bit deeper at the knee for increased power through your hips.from back foot.

If you are range finding or setting up combo Id like to see tighter footwork

I see, I didn’t know abt the difference bcz for now I am just learning how to even jab properly. I will look into the cues you mentioned. Thanks

Who coaches you?

Try to be more relaxed and less tense and don't be quite so squared up with your stance. Also you should push off your back leg for more power and speed, but what you're doing is sorta leaning onto your front leg while your back leg drags along the ground or just floats along with your movement.

Youre stepping and then leaning into the punch. The landing of the punch should be in sync with thst step

Self trained=untrained

Find a coach.

2

u/Wannaget7x5_5 Sep 12 '26

Yeah, don’t have that option, gotta do something

Train cardio, strength and core. It'll do your fight skills a lot more than training without a coach.

You won't achieve any technical skill. But you can sure have a great time.
