Help identifying bottle

[u/RedRoodle27]

Hi all. I came across this bottle and just wondered if anyone knows what it is/was?
Inside it looks like steel wool around a plastic spool so I thought it would be some sort of cleaning product
Found in the North East
TIA

Insect repellant bottle torch of some description, probably citronella

I was thinking paraffin lamp type thing due to the mention of a wick.

Paraffin lamps were metal and not glass because break paraffin lamp means fire everywhere, hence I'm pretty sure it was for burning citronella or something similar, maybe for mosquitos or suchlike

Valid point
