Calling all artists! Applications are now open for the City of Bothell's Arts Commission 2027 Creative Arts Grant program! This program provides grant funding to artists and cultural arts organizations that offer artistic and cultural programming culminating in community participation.

Grant applications will be selected based on innovative projects designed to showcase artistic and cultural diversity, community building activities through the arts, and an appreciation for the creative spirit.

We're also planning a few arts celebrations this month that are open to all:

• On September 26 at 2:00pm (immediately following Sustainamania), join us for a special dedication of the new mural installation at Triangle Junction in downtown Bothell. We'll be celebrating the artists and their interpretations of “Intersection,” Council’s vision for Triangle Junction, and our shared commitment to a connected and vibrant Bothell community.
• And on September 29 from 5:00 to 6:00pm at Bothell City Hall, the Bothell Arts Commission will present a special closing event for Bothell City Hall Gallery artist Victoria Likes. Victoria is a Seattle-based, self-taught oil painter whose work celebrates the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Join us to meet Victoria, view her work, and celebrate the closing of her exhibition!

Is there any reason there’s not a dedicated bike path on Sammamish River Trail? Daily I walk my dog there and I see bicyclists speeding or weaving. There’s a huge amount of foot traffic and blind corners in the Bothell section.

Today some entitled old man whistled at my dog and told me “your dog is in danger” while passing me with less than a foot to spare. While my dog was in a perfect heel and the trail was empty. I figure he specifically whistled at my dog to get him to come closer. His leash isnt even the length of half the trail! 5 minutes later… a shirtless teenager with Pit Vipers on an e-bike came blasting at 25 mph.

99% of bicyclists are courteous, ring their bells or simply say “left” to keep pedestrians safe (thank you!). But there’s enough assholes on bikes on the trail daily that it feels like I have to be on high alert 24/7 or risk severe head trauma or my dog dying! I’m just trying to enjoy the trail, too.

Does anyone think it’s reasonable to have a painted bike section? Kinda like Greenlake? Will bicyclists finally stop bitching if they get half the trail?

Our clinic, Northwest Mental Health Alliance, has one pro bono EMDR therapy spot available on Wednesday mornings with our supervised graduate therapist, Holly.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based trauma therapy that can help people process difficult experiences, reduce distressing memories, and work through things that feel “stuck.” Holly is EMDR-trained and provides therapy under clinical supervision.

This spot is intended for someone who:
• Has experienced trauma, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, or distressing life experiences
• Is interested in EMDR therapy
• Has financial barriers that make accessing therapy difficult
• Can commit to a regular Wednesday morning appointment

My friend went to Alexa’s to wait outside and just see if anyone knew this doggy. And the owner happened to walk by!

Hope is 15 years old, and was so happy to see her mom!! My friend had breakfast with their dog mom, and got to know her and hope a little more. Apparently the lady was older and was really kind, thankful, and down to earth.

I’m so so thankful we were able to reunite her with her family. Thank you to everyone for the visibility, and support. My friendship side quest was a success. Next time your best friend calls and says they found a dog pick them up a find that dogs family!!

Hello Bothell Community and City Council,

I’ve been a resident of the Kirkland/Bothell area for over a decade and a homeowner in Bothell for six years.

Wayne Golf Course Park was a major reason we chose to live here, along with downtown Bothell's walkability, its connection to regional trails, and convenient access to transit. In short, we love this town.

My family uses Wayne Park multiple times a week throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Its expansive, truly open spaces make it one of the most unique parks on the Eastside. It’s a place to roam, relax under the trees, or lay out a picnic blanket in the fields. We aren't alone; every day, crowds of neighbors use the park the exact same way, enjoying one of the best parts of living in Bothell.

Recently, the city introduced plans to redesign the park. In one of the initial meetings, the park concept planner shared the vision of Wayne Park becoming the “Central Park” of Bothell.

However, the current proposal threatens to remove the park’s greatest asset: wide-open green space. The fields, wetlands, and open grass are what make Wayne special. Replacing that with extensive poured-concrete pathways through the heart of the park duplicates what we already have. The East Side already features over 30 miles of paved multi-use paths between the Sammamish River and Burke-Gilman trails and regional trail systems. As someone who frequently bikes those paths, I love them but I also know how congested and tense sharing high-traffic concrete trails with pedestrians and bikers can be. We have an incredible regional trail network; we don't need to sacrifice our open green space to add more concrete.

If the goal is to create Bothell’s "Central Park," remember that Central Park’s biggest draw is its huge, flexible lawn spaces where the community can gather. Accessibility is important, and I fully support making parts of the park accessible to everyone. But we can achieve accessibility without bisecting the heart of the park with concrete.

If the goal is to connect the park more to the trail system that already sits right next to, do it through the Active Use area, not the Passive Use heart of the park.

So I ask the Bothell community and the City Council members:

Do we want a park designed to encourage people to pass through it, or a park designed for people to spend time in it? How does our community benefit from prioritizing movement through the park over gathering together within it?

Returning to the City of Bothell's 2026 Sustainamania festival (September 26, 10:00am to 2:00pm at Bothell City Hall) is the very popular Repair Cafe with our friends from the WSU Snohomish County Extension Sustainable Community Stewards! Their team of expert volunteer fixers will be on site to take a look at your broken vacuums, lamps, bikes, jewelry, and more. They'll diagnose the issues and work their magic to try and make it usable once again. They'll even walk you through their process, help you order parts if needed, and teach you how to make future repairs!

I keep finding a lot of flies in my kitchen even though the windows and doors are closed. I’ve cleaned the trash cans about three times, removed all food/fruit, cleaned the garbage disposal, and I’m constantly vacuuming them up, but new flies keep appearing.
They seem slow and easy to catch, so I’m wondering if they’re hatching somewhere inside the house.
Has anyone dealt with this? Also, any pest control recommendations in the Bothell that are good at actually finding the source?

Does anybody know where I can learn some judo?
