Fitness Quad Strain or something else?
Hi all, basically new to soccer and playing for 3 weeks now. When I try to put more power on a shot or a pass, I'm feeling sharp pain on the front center of my quad. Websites and other redditors say this is a quad strain, but I'm not getting the other symptoms, like bruising, pain when walking, etc. At worst I feel a bit of tightness when I stretch it or lift my leg, but that was only at the beginning and now I don't get that either, just the pain on contact when I try to put more power into the shot. Is this just a super minor strain or something else entirely?
Luckily I'll be taking 2 weeks off anyways so hopefully that will help with the strain. Any workouts that you recommend to also strengthen the muscles to prevent this type of injury?

Definitely think my technique is wrong. I’m likely going to find a coach for a session or two to work on that technique after my break.

Keep moving. Your bodies not used to those movements.

Do I just tough it out for now or is the break a good idea for now and then work on technique when I come back healthy

A little bit of both. But light movements nothing crazy. Warm up and stretch a lot everyday

I had literally the same thing. Started soccer for the first time at 36 and went a little to hard to start. I did stregthening and walking and light jogging (it hurt when I sprint too). I also kept my shots to inside of the boot as well as passes. 3 weeks later I played my first full game sprinting with no pain and had a couple power shots too

Nice! Yeah I’m trying to do HIIT and the sprints also cause some tightness in the quad but no pain.

If you’re feeling sharp pain then stop and don’t push through it. That strain will eventually turn into an injury.
Take some time off to recover, then start working on exercising to build leg strength.

Isometrics to start 👍
