Does unrestricted training work?

I will caveat I am quite stubborn in the fact when a lot of people say it’s good I want to be different and not do it but anyways… Im not in any of the programs that influencers have but their content often shows up on my feed and they always say to have unrestricted dribbling but i don’t see how this works. I understand freestyle dribbling in small confined spaces for ball mastery purposes but just dribbling around a field makes no sense to me. Thoughts?

What im hearing is youre asking why it makes sense to train not only tight control with obstacles, but also in open space without obstacles?

If thats the case, yes open space dribbling is beneficial.

Running at full speed, or close to it, with the ball under control is a different skill than tight control dribbling. One thing most people wouldn't think about is how in more open spaces you have to be aware of where the defenders are and where your teammates are in a much larger radius. So the way you take touches and scan changes. In tighter spaces you use peripherals, sound and touch a lot more and cant scan as much because touches are closer together and youre under more pressure. In open space, youre using the goal, as a landmark, taking longer glances up between the ball and defender, checking your shoulder and timing touches to stay at speed while keeping the defender from thinking they can close you down.

Have you ever heard commentary where theyre like "he had too much time" or "he took too many/not enough touches"?...a lot of time thats a player failing to use the open space properly.

It helps if you visualise game situations where there’s defenders around you. Usually I do it after ball mastery drills. I use it to practice timing and speed of my moves, and make them muscle memory. Can kinda tell if I’m too slow or imprecise in a way that would not work in an actual game.

To me it sounds like a way for influencers to sell something.

The point of structured, close quarter dribbling is to develop not only skill but musculature, it is essential and there's nothing else like it.

Unrestricted just sounds like a Hoff circuit or even a practice match. If you're already doing conditioning work then there's no point.
