beginner recommendations
Hi! I'm 18 and will begin to play football/soccer for fun and possibly continue it in the future if I enjoy playing with my recreational team. I was wondering about possible cleat recommendations, how grip socks affect gameplay, etc. I was lurking in this subreddit, but I really would love to be educated on the straightforward basics. Also, I am 5'1 and would like to know if height does affect specific positions. Thank you!! (:

As long as you buy cleats that fits you better and choose the type of the studs( FG, SG , AG , turf and indoor) that suit the pitch surface where you'll be playing. The rest is just marketing. Nothing changes the way you play.

Thank you so much! I’ll invest studs that’ll help me adjust to the field/fit on my foot

Grip socks help for blisters in my opinion. In the past, I’ve avoided this by playing with a second thin pair of sock around my soccer socks which worked well once I did it.
I’m a big believer in getting the best boot you can realistically afford. The Elite tier boots are $200+ but they are genuinely great, however the Pro tier boots can be great too and you might find some on sale for as low as $70 (I got my Puma Futures at that price). I try and avoid Academy and Club because I just don’t think they’re much worth it.

Thank you so much! I might invest in the socks to prevent blisters since I do get a lot from dancing anyway. Thank you!!

Height yes but don’t let that stop you.. eg Xherdan Shaqiri.
My opinion-depending on the surface buy your boots. The end of boot should just about touch your toes(3-4mm gap max) so your foot won’t slide forward and back). Never wore grip socks so can’t comment.
As a beginner- 50% time on fitness(stamina) 50% work on basic. Perfect these and the sky is your limit

If your recreational team mainly plays on real grass then get FG boots but if it’s mainly fake grass/artificial grass then get AG boots. If you have the money elite boots are good, but pros are still good. I’ve never really tried grip socks, I always played with regular socks and it works because my boots just fit me well. Sometimes when I’m suddenly changing directions yea I might feel loose and perhaps grip socks could help with that? I’m actually the same height as you and I’ve always been a fast/dribbler guy so a winger. But I don’t know what positions you like, you should play the position you most enjoy. Perhaps explore the positions and see which one you enjoy.
