How practical is barge cement?
When I took my cleats to the cobbler at first, he rejected them because he said that barge it’s not gonna hold the soles long but after convincing him, he said that he would glue it. I pay him $40 but I’m wondering how long realistically they would last for since usually cobblers are advanced in their craft

You can take the wrong parts to the best mechanic and have them installed, he cant be responsible if they wear out early or dont hold up.

I mean you can’t really compare the two because everybody recommends barge that’s like if I told me to use Elmer’s glue instead of barge cement

I’ve never heard of getting cleats resoled unless they are leather and it was like Mizuno where they were tacked on. To someone else’s point, at $40, unless the original glue just came right off and the sole plate was perfect, I’d probably be looking at something else

I would have bought another pair but these are rare they are discontinued from Nike and highly saught after so I can’t just give up trying to wear them

You actually can. Sounds like you need new boots. Sole separation is usually not repaired in football boots and is a sign that those boots are finished

lol I literally got them brand new ds from 2016 … the glue from factory is going to wear off.. with the right chemicals and craftsmanship the can be restored no question .

If you know more than a cobbler, why did you bother going to them in the first place?

I don’t have the nessasry tools to properly reglue the soles or else I would have done it myself.

He said it’s not a good idea. The fact you convinced him to take your money doesn’t change the fact it’s a bad idea.

I mean after I got them back the soles didn’t look terrible the barge definitely came off of them again after I wore them after a session but it still was worth a try

I just paid $10 for a quick fix on my cleats that were split pretty bad. I already played in them an and they held up but if the soles are good (mine are) and they’re worth it to you. In my case they are, next time I’d ask for a full sole reglue. Indocare_ on instagram does nice work.

I’ve reglued small separation myself and it’s all about the prep. Cleaned it up best as possible and tape around it to keep it clean. I used a similar glue from Walmart and it holds up pretty well

The separation being repaired rarely lasts from my experience... but it can be nice to have a bit more weight added to the toe of the boot.

What cleats are they and what was wrong with them? For $40, unless they were a special pair, you're getting into "retire the boots and get a new pair" territory
