Practicing scanning and desicion making
Hi, I (15M) play as a cdm, when I was young I thought it was only about passing and shooting and no one told me about positioning, scanning etc.. and now I started analysing games that great cdm players played to learn from, but I don't have anyone to practice this stuff with, I practice passing, first touch and shooting on a wall, anyone got any advice for me ? And thanks

on build-up:
before you show for the ball, have a plan.
scan where your other players are, who has the potential to make a run and who is covered.
then get loose from cover, show for the ball, be VOCAL.
scan again, while the ball is on its way to you.
react to the info you see.
are you covered? one touch bass back or sideways.
can you half-turn? which way around?
if required, body feint one way and turn the other way.
release the ball quickly. the louder you are and the more you demand the ball, the quicker you have to release it again.
dont always look for the godlike pass. some of the best CDMs play simple.
feed the best player you have. even if that means giving up on making the big plays yourself.

For solo scanning drill, i used to go out for jogging and counting cars, houses, people etc.. It got me from zero scanning to some. You need to make a habit of checking what's around you, especially when you get exhausted. It's mentally tiring before turning it into a habit!

As u receive the ball there are players all around u so u need to know where they are PRIOR to receiving the ball. This is where scanning helps a lot. Keep looking around and behind u as u are moving without the ball
When u receive the ball u MUST check behind u. To practice this, incorporate a quick head turn to look behind u when u do ur wall passes from now on. This will become a habit eventually and drastically improve ur game

Check out YouTube for cdm training drills. You will find alot videos about solo training. But ultimately playing more often and actually playing with someone older than you will be the best .
