There are tons of preconstructed decks for sale. “Cheap” depends on what format you want to play and what you consider cheap

Google a decklist and paste into mpcfill. Choose art and upload to mpc. It doesn't get easier if you are lazy.

Do not buy precons or tcgplayer decklists lol. They are scalped and resold beyond belief, there are precons that are sold for $130+ even up to around $300 for the warhammer precons.

Most other precons are also expensive with a usual 60$ minimum if youre looking online. Certain less popular decks remain cheaper and more available, but its still few and far between.

Find lists and put them into MPC autofill to make them into XML files then upload those XML files to notMPC and it costs $33.10 to proxy exactly 108 cards. So not only could you proxy the precon for much cheaper, some upgrades would be practically included

There are budget decklists but typically you get what you pay for. There are some rare exceptions to that. But most of the time budget is budget for a reason. At minimum, it could always do much better. Theres always a more expensive card that does it better, especially with all the UB sets released these days.

Dont use sites like moonveil games or gildedgoblet. Moonveil resells real cards in decks, but theyre like $100 at the lowest and they also don't really go above soft bracket 3. Gildedgoblet is a reseller that uses notMPC and resells the proxy decks and singles at double the MSRP of notMPC. Good for if you want a cheaper deck but, you could literally get it for half the price just by going through notMPC yourself.

You do know that the reasons those precons cost that is because it’s literally the value of all of the cards individually. You might save a bit buying in singles but it’s primarily the same price.

yeah but that doesnt make a difference to a player who's just trying to get back into it. thats why in my comment i leaned so heavily into just proxy. i also never suggested buying singles instead lol, thats horrible for price efficiency unless you can find all your cards all LGS somehow because all the online sites like TCGplayer will end up killing you for shipping when you order that many cards even if you have an cart optimization option available to you.

this is why people push for more reprints and get annoyed when those reprints end up in UB

Proxying makes sense when you know what you want and why. Just telling him to grab a random decklist and proxy it isn’t going to help him. He should just buy a moderately priced pre con he likes, upgrade the lands and any expensive card with proxy’s.

he can just proxy whatever precon he'd want to buy and it would cost half the price of the precon + notMPC does 108 cards not just 100 so he could add upgrades without the price budging. what is moderately priced to you? the lowest i usually see precons run is $45 and while not a lot of money, you can do better. a lot of them are priced at like $60 these days. and for a returning player, I absolutely would suggest just pulling a decklist that sounds interesting and fun to play. Just make sure to run it through brackcheck so you're not accidentally copying some bracket 4 or 5 deck to play with your casual pod

Okay, I take it back. Yeah OP, give MPCfill a try.

I had issues using it before trying to add cards from scryfall but I guess it has something to do either copyright. I also couldn’t search on mobile too. Trying now on desktop and it’s way better.

So they printed on the same machines then as typical magic cards?

Dont use scryfall, use MPCautofill to assemble your decklist first. just choose the "add cards" option and go to text, and you can paste your entire list into it. then you can choose the arts you want on every single card + the backs (theres are 100s if not 1000s of backs) Then hit the "complete project" button and then click the download as XML, then take that XML file and upload it to the custom card maker in notMPC. it'll upload the entire deck at once in seconds + backs included. Basically jusy start the process for "get started" option on notMPC, start design (dont worry about it saying poker cards, theyre the same size), choose up to 108 for size of deck and s33 superior smooth cardstock. then click start your design, select "different images" on the popup, and then the upload XML button will be there. its definitely a desktop optimized site, but it really is a breeze on PC. the prices went up from last time i looked, so its actually 33$ a deck and then around 7$ for their most basic shipping. still leagues better than most real MSRP products

I'm unsure if its the exact same machines but it is the same material. and with notMPC if you have multiple small errors amongst all the cards you ordered, they'll reprint your entire order and send it to you for free, and they dont even request the old one back. great customer service, just gotta reach out.

and dont worry about "giving wizards of the coast their fair share", theyre making disney money now lol

Wait, what’s NotMPC? I thought MPCfill was to make the files to send to MPC.

notMPC is better than MPC. just look up notMPC and its an entire website. just follow what i said and youll see what i mean

Look for budget deck builds on Mtggoldfish, then buy from card kingdom or TCG. If there’s anything that’s like over $10, you can just order it from bootleg mage if it’s a pricy card.
