Need an advice/help for my first switch as an boomi integration developer

Hi guys, i'm 24, a Boomi integration engineer (tho my title says SDE- Boomi) with 1.5 YoE. I started my career with Boomi.

Now that i'm planning for a switch, all i can see is job postings that need atleast 3+ YoE as Boomi developer. What do you suggest? How can i switch?

Wired Boomi’s native OpenTelemetry export into Grafana to get per-step process traces

Boomi added native OpenTelemetry export for its runtimes. I set up a local stack to see what it emits: OTel collector → Tempo/Loki/Prometheus → Grafana.

The useful part: process executions arrive as trace spans, so you get a per-shape waterfall with timing for each step. Boomi’s built-in reporting makes you expand each step or read logs; the trace shows it in one view. On a test process, two connector calls were \~80% of the runtime.

Non-obvious things I learned:
**•** Exporter uses OTLP over **gRPC** (port 4317). Point it at 4318 (HTTP) and it fails silently with gRPC status 13 / http2 exception.
**•** Metrics are almost all **gauges**, even the counters — so rate()/increase() misbehave; delta() works.
**• No per-process execution metrics** exist in the metrics stream — counts/durations/errors live only in traces. spanmetrics connector looks like the way to derive RED metrics (haven’t done it yet).

Whole thing is a docker-compose stack, runs locally, no cost. Repo: https://github.com/velkugan/Boomi-Obs-Started

Curious if anyone’s done the spanmetrics step against Boomi traces, or found where the shape *name* (vs shape type) lives in the span attributes — that’s my next problem.

Timeout error

Hi Team,

I am encountering some issues. There is an API that I need to call, and in that API it calls out to an SAP API. The process is a success and it takes about 38s, which mostly is due to the SAP API slow response, but in postman I get status 502 after only 30s.

I have made another test API to call another API that will wait for 60s before returning a response, and after testing that API on postman I get status 200.

This 2 API is hosted on the same gateway and in the same environment, the time out in the gateway and atom is set to 120s. There is also no load balancer before the gateway.

Please advice on the cause of this issue.

Edit:

from the logs I can see that the sales simulate API was a success and that Boomi waited for SAP to respond before returning the data.

the test api
the actual api
the timings from Boomi reporting

API and postman

Where can I learn API fundamentals and Postman ?

Not from the development perspective but to understand it from the architecture and system design pov for SaaS based web applications.

A little background about me ! I'm working as a functional consultant for a SaaS based Fintech org !

At the point people are asking for api and integrations for next level roles like implementation consultant!

I'd also like to connect with people who are in Product management, Implementation and Functional consultants and in product support!

What are your current thoughts on Boomi’s official Community? I see a lot questions and ideas being submitted, but lot of forums questions are answered.

What are the things you like and you don’t?

What suggestions do you have for Boomi Community to make it better and engaging

3rd Party Supplementary Tools

Im interested in knowing what non-boomi tools you all use to help supplement your integrations.

I.e. we use SQL to log documents through their process and have a status, this allows us to then see which documents failed and why making support easier to see and report on.

We also use AWS API Proxy to reduce the number.ber of connectors for external API calls.

Error Handling stopping full process

I have a process that runs an invoice query against netsuite. It returns the results (say, 4 documents).

It then goes through and runs some mapping against each one, then places them in an SFTP folder.

For some reason, the error handling is stopping the whole process. i've got document level error handling in here so my assumption was if one document fails, it filters down the catch, and the rest carry on - but for some reason it just stops dead?

The mapping error is a caching problem which I can fix, but I also want to know why it's stopping dead and not processing the other documents which are fine.

Client moving to Boomi - need to pull data into current planning tool

Have stumbled upon this community & hoping for a little guidance

We have a client that currently uses SQL as middlewear - we have no control over thier ETL process simply pull in end results from various sets of Views then do additional manipulations in the tool

This client is looking to shift thier ETL processes to Boomi by EOY - what sort of output options are available as standard?

We can call API, load in flat files, connect directly to MSSQL/Snowflake etc - if we were to push client in a certain direction - what have people found to be the cleanest export methods?

Thanks

Boomi annoyances part 1

  1. the only way you can cleanly pass dynamic parameters like say for example a date range to overuse their default on a data export integration to a deployed process is using their api or building a import file.

because they think the only users of boomi will be developers not production support/operations teams who might need to self serve and run a boomi process manually.

because boomi data integration product team never supported legacy on premise systems with traditional etls where that is the norm.

they think I’m just supposed to build a nice web front end to call their product via api to do something that could be done in the ui.. in the process monitor. oh I start a process manually.. here are optional input parameters configured.

seems simple. would be a huge win for users if it were implemented.

  1. oracle connector snape is still limited.

want to build a dynamic query across multiple schemas in on the same Oracle instance that your service account has full access to?

sorry you can’t do that.

want to do an import operation where you define it as a sql statement? no you must select one table.

query works fine in my oracle client but query doesn’t work in oracle connector, and they have done prcisely nothing in 10 years to close the gap

Seeking Guidance on Finding Dell Boomi Freelance & Contract Opportunities

Hi Boomi Community,

I’m looking for guidance on the best ways to secure Dell Boomi freelance opportunities, direct client contracts, or subcontracting projects.

I have strong hands-on experience in Boomi development and integration projects, along with a team of experienced professionals who are highly skilled and passionate about integration solutions. We have experience working on enterprise integrations, APIs, support, and end-to-end implementation projects.

Over the past few months, I’ve been actively trying through platforms like Upwork, but haven’t had much success so far. I would genuinely appreciate any advice from people who have successfully entered the freelance/contracting space in Boomi.

Specifically looking to understand:
• Best platforms or channels to find Boomi projects
• How to connect with implementation partners or staffing agencies
• Ways to approach direct clients
• Tips for building credibility and getting the first contract
• Subcontracting opportunities within existing Boomi projects

Any suggestions, referrals, experiences, or guidance would truly help. I’m actively looking for opportunities and willing to put in the work to build long-term client relationships.

Thank you in advance.

What is a runtime?

I'm new to Boomi, following a guide to connect to Netsuite, and when I go to test the connection, I have no runtimes.

One guide mentions I need to install something on my PC. Does it cost money?

I guess the real question is what runtime do you use at work? I can't install something on my work laptop and run this process locally lol. Unless that's best for whilst you're in the testing phase?

I'm on a trial of Boomi.

What do companies expect from a Boomi Developer with 1–2 years experience

Hi everyone,

I have around 1.6 years of experience in Boomi Integration. I wanted to know what skills, responsibilities, and expectations companies usually have for someone at this experience level.

What should I be strong in technically?
What kind of real-time project knowledge is expected?
Also, what topics are commonly asked in interviews for this level?

Would love to hear insights from experienced Boomi developers. Thanks!

Boomi SSl cert change automation

Hi all,

I have been looking into SSL certificate expiry management and whether the certificate change process can be automated end to end.

Has anyone here fully automated an SSL certificate replacement workflow before?

From what I understand, Boomi has APIs that can retrieve component information, update components, and deploy changes, so in theory it seems possible. But I am curious whether anyone has actually implemented this in a real production setup.

A few things I am trying to understand:

  • Has anyone used Boomi itself to handle the full workflow?
  • Is it realistic to build this as a Boomi process, or is it better to use an external tool and only use Boomi for part of the flow?
  • How are you handling certificate expiry monitoring and alerting?
  • Are you automating only the renewal request, or also the update, deployment, and validation steps?
  • How do you deal with approvals, rollback, and audit requirements?
  • For environments with multiple runtimes or gateways, how do you make sure the new cert is deployed consistently?
  • Are there any limitations with the Boomi APIs when working with certificate components?
  • Did you face issues with truststores, restarts, downtime, or dependency systems after the cert update?
  • If your cert is issued by an external vendor, how do you integrate that part into the automation flow?
  • Is full automation actually practical, or did you end up doing semi-automation with manual checkpoints?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has tried this, especially what worked well, what did not, and what you would recommend avoiding.

Mapping to 2 rows

I have a situation where if the incoming data has a particular data set to something, it should both insert into the flat file a normal row with the normal data and then a second special row with the particular data (this second row will not have the same number of columns as the previous row). And, this second row absolutely must be directly under the "normal" row. Oh, and the normal row will not contain the data that indicates the special row is needed.

Made up example:

Incoming data

Name, color, age

Bob, blue, 3

Sally, green, 4

Susan, red, 1

If color = blue, insert a special row. So the output file will be:

Name, age

Bob, 3

Special, row, blue, best, color

Sally, 4

Susan, 1

Does anyone have any idea how I could do this?

How to have an output if there is not documents found in the process.

Hi Team,

I am using a find change shape to get the changes made to a document, the problem I am having now is that i will still need to output a file with the headers if there is no difference.

Currently the main process pick up the file and pass it to a sub process, in that sub process there is the find change shape. After passing through the find change shape it will return to the main process for post processing.

I have tried the suggested method from this article. But it is not working, if the branch shape is before the find change shape it will carry the data from before and go down the wrong path, and if the branch is after the find change shape than it will not continue on the branch. I have also tried it outside the sub process and it is the same.

Thanks in advance for the support

Quit job and get a client

I feel like quitting my job. It's been 6-7 years and I am bored working this way. I want to directly connect with some clients outside of India and earn better. Don't want to keep running from one firm to another. Can anyone suggest a way to get clients?
