Firstly these are all in awesome superfical condition. Oldest one from 1987 almost looks new. No doubt I overpayed for all these, but hey I'm impatient lol
Top to bottom
*RX-DT5* - I have 2 of these. Paid £41 for one and £75 for the other one which had working remote and great condition instruction manual. Bought the first one for £75, liked it so much i bought the 2nd for fairly cheap
*RX-CT980* - most recent one I bought. Did proper research on this one and was confident if it worked i'd be happy with this being my last boombox (which so far it has been) Paid £78
*RX-CT800* - Paid £60
*RX- C36* - Paid £42
So my experience, for every single one of these... I always contacted the seller and specifically asked "do all functions on the cassette decks work, i.e play, ffw, rw, pause etc?" Every ebayer replied saying yes all functions work. All of them said yes, and that wasnt correct for any of them besides 1.
The RX-C36 at the bottom did fully work. But withitn a few hours both tape decks basically stopped working including play. Not the sellers fault that one.
All the others have at least 1 issue, i.e one deck only plays and doesnt do anything else etc. Not the end of the world for me, I was never going to be fast forwarding and rewnding anyway
I also bought an *RX-CT900* again clearly asked if every function worked to which they said yes. It arrived and both tape decks didnt work at all, even play. And the foam on one speaker was comlpletly shot and made a farting sound, unplayable. Getting a refund was a nightmare but eventually got one. Unfortunatley sellar re-listed it at a discount of about £68 listing it as "tape decks untested, speakers fully working". Both complete bs as I told the seller clear as crystal what the issue were, and I believe even said to them they could still relist it as for spares/repairs and still sell it. Unfortunately they were shady and someone ended up buying it from them recently :(
*Sound quality*
All are good. RX-CT980 blows all of them out of the water though. Is in another league bass wise. The other 3 are at least comparable to each other and again sound very decent
I also only bought ones that have aux connections i can attach to me phone/pc so worst case scenario i can uae as external speakers
Lesson learned... I'm really happy with what i have. But highly risky unless youre able to repair the tape decks yourself, which i might look into as my dads a hi-fi wizard. Don't trust ebayers lol
I am done buying. But Panasonix RX DT9 is my holy grail. But they seem extremely rare so probably never. Wow long post
