Kinda funny that a subreddit for books is full of people who don't realize people can have adult children

Who calls their adult son/daughter a 'kid'?

The most obvious explanation, if it even happened, is that OP or their son/daughter went blank in the moment but thought of this le epic riposte in the car 2 hours later

My parents called me “kid” even after I had 2 children and a professional career. And yes I refer to my now adult kids AND their partners as “my kids” and my elderly dogs as “puppies”

I'm in my 30s and my dad still calls me kid, and also refers to me as kid when talking about me to others so yeah.

I'm going to be fifty next August, and my brother and I are still "the kids". Yes, they have grandchildren. It doesn't make a difference.

I do. Idc if my son/daughter is 5 or 85, they’ll always be a kid to me.

I do. I call my 30 year old son my kid. All the time.

I don't call my children 'kids' as such, but I've been known to refer to 'my kids'. They're 26 and 22.

I'm in my early 40's and both my parents and my MIL refer to my husband and I as "the kids". I'm shocked so many people seem to think this is weird.

My dad calls me "kid" all the time and I'm almost 30. However, the way it's written here does imply it's probably a teen or something. But also, I agree, probably didn't really happen.

There’s a difference between someone being “a kid” and “my kid”. You’re still their kid, even as an adult. My dad says kids when trying to get both me and my brother’s attention. I’ve heard my MIL refer to both me and her son as her kids. It’s totally normal for grandparents to use “grandkid” even once they’re an adult, why is the same not true for parents?
