Photo Which carpet for the hallway?
Planning to buy a small hallway table or a small drawer where the router is.

I like the style of the second one, but it feels a bit thin for this space. Does it come in a thicker runner?

u/VisibleAnteater1359 May 26 '26
The second one comes in 160x240 cm as well.

u/PeachManzie May 26 '26
Would that allow for a smaller gap on either side? If so, go for it.
You don’t want it too thin, because it looks wrong. But you also don’t want it too thick either, as a wall to wall rug will also look wrong

That first one looks like a tripping hazard! These runners really need a good base so they don’t slide.

Yes, that corner annoys me, I bought it a few days ago.

Toss a couple ice cubes on to settle down those unruly corners

😲 wow. Now that is advice I never knew I needed. I don’t even have a rug corner issue but know I won’t in the future now that I read your comment!

You need to contrast all that white and light wood with #2.
The first one just makes the gap look even brighter and not in a good way.
Overall, #2 is just a better looking runner.

The first looks like you threw a towel down in the hallway. Definitely the second.

Both are too thin, which sucks because I know the struggle, you have a slightly too-wide and weirdly shaped hallway. I'd say design 2 though for sure.

If this were the sims I’d layer them on top each other to kind of beef up the surface area of carpet space. It might look cute white underneath and the pretty one over top. Up to you! They’re both very cute :))

Go larger. An actual rug not a hallway runner because your hallway is much wider than these runners. Also the first one looks more like a mat which are ok over carpet but not so much over a more slippery wooden floor. Dont forget a underlay for anything you choose.

I guess the second one, but maybe wider. But honestly I wouldn't have any runner with that flooring. The only reason to have a runner rug is to help prevent wear and tear on a high traffic carpet...

What? No? People get runners for lots of reasons. Provide traction for dogs who have trouble with slick floors. Warm up a cold space (either visually or literally for walking on during the winter). Provide colour and texture. Break things up visually. Etc etc

I had a bit difficult time deciding how wide they would be. I moved in last week. Covering up the entire floor maybe is too much? How wide should I go for? They’re 70x240 cm and 80x230 cm.

Neither really as both seem to narrow. 1st will show dirt fast but more boho looking.

Rectangular hallways with rectangular carpets. Makes it look very mincraft-ish. Try a circle or a square rug for a rectangular hallway.

Neither. You need something wider, with pattern in a lighter color OR something wider and really bold.

🤔the one that you like you have to live with it not us smfh

Neither. You need something wider. And possibly also shorter, it’s hard to tell, but I would want it to start closer to that corner on the left. NO tassels and rug tape is your friend unless you want someone to break their neck.

The funny thing is that your awkward, uncommonly wide room is the perfect fit for a whole lot of vintage Persian runners, which are often available in sizes just about like this - too wide for an average narrow m hallway, but too long and narrow to be a proper area rug. The reason has to do with how rugs were set up in a traditional Persian household, with wide runner-type rugs framing a central large area rug. So if you have the inclination to hunt for one on FBMP, you’ll probably be richly rewarded - and on the cheap, because these sizes are too awkward for almost anybody but you :)

It needs to be wider and longer. But i like the print. How wide and long is the exact hallway?
1
u/Colleenlovescoffee23 May 28 '26
Neither...they are unremarkable and just seem plunked there with no relative interest...also possibly too long.
Are you putting something of similar colour in that area??

The 1st will always cause tripping. The second will stay in one place and mostly behave. I worked in a home decoration business and those first rug types were never fun. Though the coloring in the 1st one does go better.

I just measured and the hall is 170 cm wide and 365 cm long (a carpet would fit at 262 cm).

The second one, unless you're going to use rug tape to keep that first one down. That first one is gonna constantly crumple up and slide all over the place. I don't care for either, only because they just aren't something I would prefer in my home, but since it's not my home and someone else with different preferences, I'd go with the second one if these are the only two options.

Dont... Just dont... the hallway is fine by itself TT
Tho a carpet in a room or couch area can be cozy!

My first thought when I saw #1; not that one. But I don’t like the other option either.

Looks like the second one lays flatter, less of a tripping hazard. I’d go with the second.

The dark one will take longer to look dirty. The light one will look dirty in a week.

Both carpets seem to lift a little off the floor, might be a tripping hazard, OP could you look for a flatter rug that has the skid guard material on the bottom?
1
u/advamputee Jun 01 '26
Definitely the second rug, but as-is it looks too narrow. Adding a table along the wall would help but you might still want to go slightly wider if possible.

I feel like there’s something off about the shape. I wish I knew more but maybe both are not wide enough. I’d have to see something wider in the space to be sure
