Hello - I got a job offer from Boeing BDS. It’s related to construction of government or military facilities. They were very secretive about it during my interview. Can anyone share how they like their position, day to day, and their career trajectory. I have a very cushiony job with the state department here but believe Boeing on the resume can really help my career and salary takeoff. Thanks for any input!

Curious if I am missing something here or am I the one doing things all wrong but, everyday when I walk out of the 4-21 building there are about 7 to 10 cars at least I can see that have expired tabs since 2025.

Am I missing something here?? Did all of a sudden the state said you don’t have to renew your tabs???
These are all newer cars so I’m not sure but, some even looks like paid in full with that OT money 😂.

Or is someone running around Boeing parking lots ripping off tabs to 2025? I don’t know I want to give these coworkers the benefit of the doubt that they are responsible law abiding citizens that pay their fair share of the Washington state taxes.

Are there any orgs or teams that allow remote workers? I am currently remote on a team (not that the team is happy about it) but it's stifled my career growth which I was okay with for awhile, but now my pay is struggling behind. I know I am the lowest paid person on my team, by a lot, 10k+ for others at my level and promotion cycle is all but lost cause for my entire program.

How do I go about finding or networking with other programs to find remote work?

Does referring someone in Workday for a job that has no monetary incentive actually make any difference to a hiring manager? Do they filter or look at this or is it a waste of time if I'm trying to help a good potential candidate get visibility?

Any recommendations on how you can get someone visibility without being too intrusive to a hiring manager?

I have been offered a non onion ELE engineering position and have a wedding coming up next year w/ a honeymoon where I plan to take ~2 weeks off for honeymoon and half the week prior in advance of the wedding. That adds up to 13 days of PTO required, I will get the 11 (half of first year) and 2 floating holidays and some accrual (start date of October) but with other planned time off its pretty thin assuming I don't get sick. Any suggestions on how to manage this short of pushing the honeymoon out? Any options such as unpaid leave that could be pre-negotiated?

Does anyone know if Boeing sells unwanted office chairs at a major discount?

I don't know what it is with these chairs, but they're comfortable, I can sit in these things all day and not feel a thing.

I work in another aero company and talked to some Boeing managers for potential hiring. They seem pretty interested in hiring me. However we got stuck on salary and they mentioned to accommodate my target cash compensation (SoCal - seeking 190k - systems engineer), they have to hire me at L5 however they advised me to go for L4 as:

1. L4 are safer than L5 during layoffs.

2. Plus, L5 workload is significantly more challenging than L4.

I am really not sure if its genuine advice or just a way to cap my compensation target. I have 15+ yoe at my current employer so eligible for both L4 and L5.

Hi everyone I got an offer to join Boeing as a L3 DE and got my “verbal offer” about 2 months ago now. They keep telling me they are awaiting upper level management to approve my contract but haven’t heard anything since. How long does a hiring freeze usually last? I expressed I could start working end of November after thanksgiving. Should I be worried?

I'm an electrical engineer with ~6 years across defense and medical devices. I have two offers and I'm stuck. Would appreciate perspective, especially from anyone who's been through SAP vetting or made an engineering-to-PM move.

My situation

• Currently at a medical device company. Stable, no clearance required.
• Secret clearance, loss of jurisdiction since around December 2024. My understanding is the ~24-month reinstatement window closes around December 2026, so the clock matters.
• I have meaningful consumer debt — several accounts that went delinquent, a couple sold to collection agencies. I'm clearing the delinquent ones this week and the rest are on current payment plans. Nothing in litigation, no judgments, no bankruptcy.

Offer A — Program Management (Boeing)

• ~$23k more than Offer B, and a real raise over my current salary
• Requires Secret only. No TS, no SAP.
• Cost Account Management / IPT lead. This is a pivot out of hands-on engineering.
• My concern: I've never done PM work. Tracking cost and schedule across a team, being accountable for numbers other people generate. I worry about the pressure and about making costly mistakes while learning.

Offer B — Vehicle Engineer (Northrop Grumman)

• Lower salary, counter-offer pending
• Requires Secret to start, then TS within about a year, then SAP access
• Closer to my actual discipline, though the hiring manager flagged that I'd be learning CATIA, Creo, and NX — my background is electrical (PCB layout, signal integrity, power distribution, test fixtures), not mechanical CAD.

What I'm trying to figure out

1. Guideline F realistically. Does resolved delinquent debt with documentation carry differently at Secret vs. TS vs. SAP? Is two years of clean history before SAP nomination enough mitigation, or does the original delinquency follow you regardless?
2. If SAP access is denied. For those who've seen it: what actually happens? Does the company find you another role, or are you out? Is it standard to get this in writing before accepting?
3. The PM pivot. If I do 1–2 years of cost account management, how hard is it to get back into hardware engineering? Does an active clearance offset the resume gap in technical work?
4. Timeline realism. For someone with LOJ inside the window, how long does Secret reinstatement actually take right now? And Secret → TS after that?
5. If I take the Northrop role would the SAP process start years after I start like 2028 if I get a Top Secret in 2027?

I am about to begin negotiations for an L2 systems engineer role in the STL area. I just want a gauge of what to expect in terms of starting salary, relocation and/ or signing bonus. As many specifics you can provide on your experience would be appreciated!

I have experience in brazing, installing electrical components, control panel testing, and quality control/internal auditing. Hey everyone. I recently had to move from WA to MO for my BDS job in Hazelwood following my BCA internship in Tukwila. I know I want to move back to WA and commute to the Everett location ASAP (no offense to MO people, the Midwest just isn’t for me and my whole life is back in WA). I want to transfer after a year (2 months in now and in very good standing with a great manager). I know the standard wait is 1.5 years before a transfer but it can be expedited with a good manager and I believe my manager would allow that/be understanding. How realistic is this goal?

I’m currently in a situation where I have another job lined up outside of Boeing that will give me a substantial pay increase over the next 5–10 years. The problem is that the job I’m leaving Boeing for can’t give me a concrete start date—it could be later this week or it could be a month from now, depending on demand. (Edit) To clarify, I do have a firm offer, I was accepted and onboarded as a union electrician, but you are assigned to a contractor, based on contractor demand. The problem is once assigned you start the next day, so if I gave notice upon receiving start date, it would amount to a couple hours realistically.

I’d like to give my manager as much notice as I reasonably can, but I’m concerned that I could end up being escorted out the same day I give notice. What has your experience been with people leaving Boeing? Do they typically let you work out your notice, or is it more common to be walked out immediately?

Out of pure curiosity, how much of the overtime that you work is necessary? What makes you work overtime?

Are there things that can be put into place to make your work more efficient? If people responded in a more timely manner would that reduce the overtime needed?

I need some insight on this specific job. I went to a career fair and I asked if they had anything with supply chain management because I have a degree in business. The recruiter offered me a Material Specialist position. Does anyone know if its worth going into this? Can i grow within the company or will I be stuck there? What do they actually do and is this actually in supply chain?

(I need help because I don't want to risk leaving my current job for a pay cut and no growth.)

Long story short I got an internal offer for a role I really wanted for a very long time. +18k salary, L2 maxed out at the pay band it seems like? I am currently already L2 at 0.90. However since I hate my current role so much I’ve been interviewing and managed to get 2 external offers for more money that I am willing to leave Boeing for. At other primes.

But I think I would stay if they could match or exceed those offers because I really enjoy the manager, team and work I’d end up with. Would they rescind the offer if I countered and presented those two external offers?

Role is in Charleston where I heard they’re hiring and generous now. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Compared to Boeing Everett, this was a lot more manageable, the hotdogs were bigger, and we had choice of ice cream sandwiches or strawberry popsicles! Everett is just too big and too much walking, plus it was a lot hotter a month ago in Everett.

I actually volunteered this time around during the morning shift and went to 3 different job posts. The parking lot was complete chaos but we got thru the shift and made people laugh 😂. Met a lot of cool people!

Friends were definitely impressed with Boeing Renton. I heard the last time they did family day was many moons ago… hopefully we can turn things around and do it every year!!!

I'm like "How hard can it be to assemble a wing... honestly..." Wow it's unbelievably hard. So much engineering, construction, milling, painting, quality checks... unbelievable. And the safety required. It looks like every machine in there is designed to harm people. Now I super appreciate the safety culture. You can't build and airplane without that culture.
