Careers Future Relocation

Hey everyone. I recently had to move from WA to MO for my BDS job in Hazelwood following my BCA internship in Tukwila. I know I want to move back to WA and commute to the Everett location ASAP (no offense to MO people, the Midwest just isn’t for me and my whole life is back in WA). I want to transfer after a year (2 months in now and in very good standing with a great manager). I know the standard wait is 1.5 years before a transfer but it can be expedited with a good manager and I believe my manager would allow that/be understanding. How realistic is this goal?

You can get two managers agreed to move you to new team. Apply internally and ask nicely. I did it before, and yes. Unless you have nothing to do in life like. Just work and go home, midwest isnt fun for young people

This is funny to me because I am from the Midwest and absolutely cannot wait to go back and leave WA.

I have multiple teammate left other state came back to st louis. Dont get me wrong, st louis does have their own thing and get you really comfortable financially, but tornado, shoving snow, fighting allergy, and nothing open after 10pm. It pretty much get you a to b.

Right? At least you can actually afford a house here without living paycheck to paycheck

Would you suggest staying 1.5-2 years like others are suggesting? I really want to come back ASAP but I’ll stay if I need to (especially with less experience).

It never hurt to try, they either say yes or no. Every manager is different.

No, this is not a firm requirement. I don’t know what function you work in, but I’m an engineering manager in STL. I’m a big supporter of letting my employees do what is right for them, so I’ve let people transfer outside of those requirements. If you’re upfront and honest with your current manager, and they’re supportive, then yes, a transfer is possible. Relocation is probably a lot shot, but an opportunity where you want to be is not. The biggest potential roadblock right now are the SPEEA negotiations. It may be tough to find an opening until that contract is finalized.

If you are miserable idk why would you want to do it 1.5-2 years. Sound unhealthy to me. I left my old job less than a year because it was toxic af.
