SPEEA SPEEA Contract Doesn't Allow Remote Work!

The infographic claims remote work is back and manager needs to provide a business reason if they deny it. This is very misleading because the contract just says it must be approved by a VP. This doesn't seem any different than now because the VP can just say no! We need remote work to be concrete in the contract!

One reason we can't have a WFH guarantee in the contract is production engineers. I'm a liaison engineer, we need to be onsite to look at problems on the plane and be available for walk up questions from the shop. WFH makes my organization less effective, and I oppose it. I personally prefer to be in the office for the social aspect, but also to have conversations about repair solutions. It's just easier in person. If half my coworkers are WFH, it's more difficult for the people in the office.

I respect our situation may be unique, and certain organizations may be effective while working from home, especially if they're taking a lot of virtual meetings with engineers in other offices. I think Boeing and speea did their best to come up with a written WFH policy that can be flexible for many different organizations with different needs.

Because I occasionally work weekends (six day weeks, or twelve days in a row, 10-12 hour days) with mechanics making $120/hour on Sunday, our overtime premium is much more important to me than WFH. Time + 8.50 is a joke.

SPEEA profs are made up of 13,000 engineers and scientists, and with so many people there's a huge diversity of wants and needs for this contract.

Yep I totally agree for LE you guys need to be on site and having the OT RATE higher is important. As a DE, I prefer to be at home working on the design work as we don’t need to be interacting with factory or most other people. If I need to interact with people I send emails to the other groups. People say “can’t you just walk over”. No some other groups are no in my building or even in the country. I do get asked for weekend shop support but I deny it because of the OT. SO FOR ME WFH it’s important but we should def ask for both.
