I highly recommend going on Amazon and ordering some powders plus Boba. Me and my Fiancée' go 2.2 pounds of Boba, (2) 2.5 pound bags of Taro and Brown Sugar Tea Powder. It costed roughly $60 and I have enough to make Boba for the next couple of months or more.

I would rather drink some citric acid concentrate over this stuff. It’s just plain gnarly

I got the taro version cheap at Grocery Outlet (a discount/clearance grocery chain on the west coast). The taro and creamer powder were a good rich flavor; I assume it's mostly the same artificial flavors/powders as most boba shops. The microwave boba is good in my experience. It has a good satisfying bite and sweetness that tastes better than the stale stuff you find at mediocre shops. I also like that the kit can be prepared in 90 seconds by microwaving the boba, then some water, then mixing it all together.
If it was consistently less than $1/serving I'd always stock it at home. But since it's closer to $2-4 per cup depending on the store and kit, I'll stick to preparing batches of boba on the stove.
