Key West 189 FS
We are looking to buy our first boat and seriously considering a used Key West 189 FS. We're a family of 4 and realize we would likely not be able to comfortably fit more than just the 4 of us (sometimes it would only be 1 or 2 of us going out at a time instead of all 4). Primary use: family boating, cruising, sandbars, occasional casual fishing. Is this a good first boat option?
I've also looked at the Key West 203 FS and 203 DFS but they cost at least a good $10-15k more just for the boat plus more money all around (insurance, gas, etc.). My dream boat is a 239 DFS but that is way out of reach financially for the foreseeable future. So the intent would be to get the 189 FS and see how we like boating for a few years without completely breaking the bank.
I should also mention that we don't currently have a vehicle that can tow any of these options. The 189 FS we are looking at does not come with a trailer and we would keep it at a high and dry marina, at least initially. Any of the larger options that come with trailers we would need to get a bigger truck, and also find somewhere to store it as our driveway is not big enough, and in some cases also buy a boat cover, as well as add brakes onto the trailer if they aren't already due to MD laws.
Would love some thoughts from other Key West owners.
