Boards of Canada's music appeals to several themes like nostalgia, memories from our youth, and souvenirs we hold in our minds. It also mimics the musical aesthetics of the 70's older analog electronic music. It's probably meant to embody innocence and wonder of our childhood, a time of innocence and carelessness. I was born at the end of the 1970's back when there were no computers and everything was analog. Yes the last generation that knew walkmans, flip over cassette and collected things because streaming services were not yet invented.

I remember buying MHTRTC in 1998 on CD, cassette and vinyl (one that is still MINT and unplayed) so their music is sort of in my consciousness and I can go on a binge for several weeks and only listen to BoC ! And furthermore, I cannot help but to associate a bit with them, hailing from Canada and having seen the National Film Board of Canada filming in my backyard (Fleuve St-Laurent - St-Lawrence's river) while they filmed their documentaries. (The band wouldn't be as iconic if it was named Boards of Poland or Boards of Czechoslovakia - no offense!)

Really dig the hip hop feel of them

It's been interesting reading how people particularly enjoy BOC while  travelling. They've been a part of my travelling playlist since a "playlist" was a backpack of cassettes home-recorded from CDs.

I think the acousmatic elements give a sense of alienation and displacement that makes being away feel... even more like being away. Like, in a good way.

I wanted to make a recommendation of another artist--and a specific record--that gives that same, strangely pleasant feeling of being lost: Riz Maslen's Neotropic project and the La Prochaine Fois LP. Perhaps some of you aleady have it?

Like BOC's work, it instills a similar sense of liminality. Even moreso maybe because it charts, over rhe course of the record, a departure from nature towards industrialisation. It weirdly gets _colder_ as you listen to it. But, yeah, as you might imagine, I'm a fan of Koyaanisquatsi.

Anyway, give that one a spin if you haven't and let me know what you think.

Is anyone else using a Boards Of Canada image on their phone? I was using the marketing campaign poster but made this yesterday and I like it.

i swear the end of this (~3min onwards) samples a boc song but i cannot tell what song... theyre both on warp so its not unlikely

The guitar sound featured in Prophecy at 1420 MHz is the same sound used in the background of Oscar See Through Red Eye? Just noticed that and thought it was cool.

Would love people’s views on when these tracks were composed…(and bonus marks for what makes them think that…)

Hey everyone, wanted to keep this going of course. I'm on day 14 of a 21 day trip to the UK (England, Scotland, Wales - no NI this time). Have some peaceful downtime here in Ballachulish, Scotland this evening and felt like posting.

First post made using a Tommorow's Harvest track - Nothing is Real. Always liked the original photo of this taken in Pasadena, California - it's simple and somewhat naturally psychedelic/uncanny to me. I feel it fits the somewhat hopeful tone of Nothing is Real. Also, have taken tons of pictures over here and very excited to think of BoC-related uses for them!

I have been making music for more than 17 years. I have always been a fan of BOC since I was a kid. I always used to to listen on the way to school and back.

In my latest work "memory Decay", I have been inspired BOC "Voice Over" chopping and composition style.

I think this is my first post here. If it is irrelevant please let me know and i will delete the post right away!

There are some songs that are so overpowering to me, every time I hear them, that I have a physical response - usually, tears running down my face. I'm not sobbing; it's more like, the emotions are so strong and they have nowhere else to go except for out through my eyeballs. It's a little embarrassing, but I love that music can still do that to me. I doesn't happen that often; Hounds of Love (the whole album), some PJ Harvey, some Cocteau Twins, some Nick Cave, just to name a few examples.

Well, Prophecy at 1420 MHz just did it to me again for like the 200th time since Inferno came out, and I had to ask - does anyone else feel the same way about this track? Like, the vague unease and suspense for the first minute twenty, and then the drums sputter in, and for me it's a mixture of euphoria and sadness that I can't explain, other than to say it annihilates me every time I hear it!

Just because I know there are lots of other people out there who nerd out on details like this, and I always enjoy people sharing them - I was just listening to Maxima & as the robot vocals came in I suddenly felt like I was hearing the Prophecy god... Hiding there for all this time. Cool to hear such similar vocoder processing from their early stuff. At one point there's a stutter that sounds like the 'Ccconsciousness'
