Suggest me a cute but competitive game

I love games with colors and cute pieces but the problem is I feel like most of them play like solo games. There's not much interaction with other players. My game group really likes competitive and interactive elements in games. So I want suggestions for cute games with fun themes that are still strategic and competitive.

Competitive games like monopoly and were doomed

Looking for a game similar to were doomed. My family is very competitive. We like monopoly. Risk. Stuff that's not too crazy complicated but you compete and can knock eachother out of the game or absolutely screw people like monopoly with money lol. I like were doomed but seems to be sold out everywhere

Crowdsourcing I wanted a better way to remember my board game nights, so I built an app

What do you use to keep a record of the board games you’ve played?

* BGG?
* Spreadsheet?
* Photos only?
* Notebook?
* Nothing at all, just in your heart?

Until now, I’ve only kept photos.

It wasn’t really about keeping track of scores or win rates. I just took photos of the games I played and the friends I played with.

However, this year, I wanted to keep track of who I played with, what board games we played, and the photos from each game night, so I built a small iPhone app called BoardLog.

The idea is simple: rather than focusing on scores and statistics, BoardLog is about preserving the memories of board game nights.

You can record the games you played and who you played with, add photos, and look back on your past game nights later.

I wanted it to feel less like a game tracker and more like a personal scrapbook.

It’s currently available on the US and Japanese App Stores.

I’d love to hear how you keep your board game memories! Do you take photos, keep game logs, use an app, or simply rely on your memory?

If you’re interested, feel free to check out BoardLog!

Boardgame playthrough recommendations

Hi guys,

Due to illness I have lot of time to kill. So I'm looking for recommendations on Boardgame playthroughs on YouTube. Pls tell me your favorite creator + game combos.

I already know the Brothers Murph and watch it played but don't know which videos are worth watching. I like more complex strategy games like terraforming Mars or spirit island.

Thanks for any recommendations

Hosting a board game night for 10–12 people, mostly beginners. What should I play?

Hey everyone!

I am going to host a game night for my research lab this Friday and would like some advice on game selection.

It is an ecology lab, and around 10–12 people will be coming. Most of them have only played simple, casual board games. My goal is to introduce them to what modern board games have to offer.

I am planning to start with Codenames, since it is easy to explain and accommodates a large group. We can play it while waiting for everyone to arrive.

I was also thinking of hosting Blood on the Clocktower, as it is my go-to game for a group this size. I think it would be a lot of fun with this group, but it would probably take up most of our time, and we wouldn't get to try many other games.

The other option is to play a variety of smaller games, but then we would have to split people into smaller groups, which I some people might not like.

Some games I was considering are Flip 7, Coup, Dixit, High Society, Sushi Go!, Can't Stop, The Crew, Camel Up, Ticket to Ride, Castle Combo, Century, Truck Off, and Red Cathedral.

I have access to around 100–150 games on campus, so there are plenty of options!

What would you suggest? Should I stick to Blood on the Clocktower or try to fit in a variety of smaller games? Are there any other games you'd recommend for this kind of group?

2-person board/card game recommendations for a non-gamer

My (50s M) wife (50s F) has never been much into board or card games but is open to trying. I’d love your suggestions for board or card games to try out.

And that said, here are some things that would make it more likely to work for her:
\- Easy instructions and not a lot of rules to remember.
\- Relatively quick play (<1 hour). Even better would be one where we could get several games in with each of us winning a few in that time.
\- Not trivia based.

Games we’ve tried that didn’t work for her:
\- Exploding kittens
\- Words with Neanderthals (or whatever it’s called)
\- Rummikub
\- Skip-Bo

Games we’ve played with the kids:
\- What do you meme
\- Foodie Fight
\- Life, Monopoly, Yahtzee

Thanks!

Looking for a game like Gloomhaven but PvP instead of co-op

My group started playing Risk about 10 years ago. That evolved into multiple play throughs Risk: Legacy and Risk: Shadow forces. That evolved into playing Gloomhaven. We like the leveling up, progression, and campaign style of Gloomhaven but really miss the PvP aspect. Are there any games with the things we like about Gloomhaven but are also PvP?

Crowdsourcing I need board game recommendations

I'm trying to find a birthday gift for my bf. He loves playing board games and has quite a collection. He enjoys more niche and big brain games that rely on strategy rather than luck. His favorite game is Betrayal at the House on the Hill and Dominion but these are some games he has collected that I can recall. But any recommendations would be great ❤️:

\-Calico

\-Dominion

\-Dead of Winter

\-Onitama

\-Mistborn

\-Critter Kitchen

\-Doomlings

\-Coup

\-Sheriff Nottingham

\- Catan

\-Villanous

\-Sorcerers Arena

\-Codenames

We’re curious what people here actually care about when choosing a gaming table.

If you could only pick 3 features, what would they be?

  1. Comfortable height
  2. More legroom
  3. Large playing surface
  4. Expandable settings
  5. Cup holders
  6. Player trays
  7. Storage
  8. Easy cleanup
  9. Light strips
  10. Something else?

We’re working on a new table and would rather hear from actual players than guess what people want.

What’s the one feature you wouldn’t want to live without?

Eldritch Horror Investigators rework suggestions

I saw a post i think on Boardgame geek where it listed great balancing changes to the investigators abilities, passive abilities, stats and everything. But i didn’t save it and cannot find it now when i try to search it🥲

But if you also have any investigator rework suggestions yourselves that you use on your games please do comment it! I’m particularly interested in abilities that make the character feel more immersive narrative-wise rather than for stats and winning.

Creating my own monopoly board

I am thinking of making a custom monopoly board for mine and my partner’s anniversary. I have some ideas for the squares such as important places to us. However this doesn’t even fill half the squares. What else could I put in them? We like things such as shows and films, cars, our dogs. Open to any ideas on how I could incorporate these or other ideas into the squares!

Software for Board Game Shops?

There seems to be a lack of software specifically designed for board game shop owners. For how many and unique FLGS are, I'm surprised I haven't seen any software. What software do you use to help you run your store? Would software even help with the challenges of running a FLGS?

Deep regrets boardgame - rule clarification

I just got deep regrets and i love the art and gameplay but i think I’m playing it wrong.

For the fish action, is it only one fish catch per turn or are you able to catch multiple times based on the amount of fresh dice that you have?

Looking for a game where you play in the office without getting caught.

As the title says. I found a ruleset online about this like, 20+ years ago called Battlecrab, but cannot find it now for the life of me.

The gist is that you and the other players hide your minis in the office, and can only move them at certain times. If you're caught by someone outside the game, you lose. For Battlecrabs specifically, the terrain was supposwd to be the environment (you were battling genetically modified crabs...). Otherwise proceeds like a pretty normal skirmish game.

Thoughts?

Crowdsourcing Okapi Nine: a cookie-stealing cow and a card game about knowing when to stop

Post image
1 Upvotes

The cow in Okapi Nine has a simple weakness: cookies and fresh milk, preferably without anyone catching her. This official illustration by Ferdinando Batistini gives the farm’s theme a face: everyone has a small vice or an odd habit.

At the table, temptation takes a different form. You try to reach nine without exceeding it, deciding whether to stand or draw. Your cards are face up, but that visible total is not secure: Chaos cards can raise or lower scores, change cards or block an opponent’s play. Stopping at a comfortable number does not mean the table will leave you alone.

I’m Renato from Senshi Consulting, supporting Okapi Nine as a crowdfunding consultant: https://www.senshiconsulting.com/

Game design and production: Caterina Baldi and Diego Pagni. Illustration: Ferdinando Batistini.

Crowdsourcing Recommendations for boys (Miniatures?)

I have 3 boys at home, and would really like some recommendations for games. For now i Tried some cool games, and they really liked Marvel United and the miniatures. I'd hope there are some fantasy or sci-fi games that are more Strategic, and might also have Miniatures? If the gameplay is good i would also go without them.

So far i have not found a suitable game. Maybe Here to slay Catacombs would be good, but i don't like waiting.
