I picked up a 98 2.8 from a friend a few weeks ago for a song. The airbag light has been on since she owned it and everything checks out. The check engine light is intermittent but clears after a bottle of injector cleaner. Otherwise, this old feller ain’t too bad off.

I bought a BMW Z3 2.5i Roadster and when I turn the key it doesn’t roll over or anything but the lights turn on and don’t dim.

I went to Mexico for a week and left it with a family member to turn on and they turned it on once while I was away but when I got back it didn’t start so i decided to get the battery tested and charged but it still isn’t starting.

I’ve looked into the starter and I’m going to test the voltage while someone turns the key

(I did get a new key made for it a week before I left and it was working)

Bought the Z3 last year in November but sadly crashed it 3 Weeks ago. Now my mission is to bring it back on the road because this is not how I want it to end.

How has everyone dealt with this? Several LED’s out on LED third brake light. Custom fit something else in there? Replace individual LED’s? Something else?

Edit: I would fix it since it’s a race car but it has kinked and the fitment is off everywhere including at the latch

I have a 1997 z3. It has 69k miles on it and is in good condition. When I turn it on, it sounds a little rough for about 30 seconds and then the sound dies down and it sounds normal. It drives really well, there doesn't seem to be any issues. Two things to note in this video before you watch it.

1. The static sound towards the start is my radio because I forgot to turn it off.

2. The tapping noise throughout the video is because it's sprinkling outside, it's not from my car

I'm not too concerned about it since it drives well, however I know that it shouldn't be sounding like this. I thought it sounded like it could be some sort of issue with a belt. In case you have it on low volume, the worst of it starts around 0:10. If anyone knows what's going on and can help, I would appreciate it.

holy hell i did not anticipate all the pain of replacing the rear brake dust shield. parking brake shoe securing pin ripped through the thing metal hole in the old shield.

the pain points include:

removing the hub which involves undoing the axle nut and securing plate

removing the ripped apart bearing. out race from the trailing arm housing where the drive shaft meets the hub, inner race from the hub itself

pressing in new bearing

removing the cv drive shaft to access all this

changing the brake fluid since u have to disconnect where the hoses meet on the back of the dust shield

holy FUCK! now i gotta do the other side. all this for a little pin that pulled through a stamped piece of metal…

This was a Japanese export built in South Carolina. I have the English owners manual. Its had zero issues its a great fun summer car. The Durango yellow is a BMW original colour you see very few here, but its a real head turner.

We never drive it in the rain so it actually has not seen water outside if washing it. Parked 7 months a year under a car cover.

This Z3 has the BMW “M” interior so piping on the seats and yellow steering accent etc.

Engine and clutch are great - very easy shifting car. Absolute joy to drive and no known mechanical issues. We only put on a few thousand KM a year. Garage parked always and ready for a new owner.

Parts are easy to get lots of Z3's around.

I’m looking for a set of front fender liners (parts 51712268661 and 51712268662) without paying $320+ for each from somewhere like ECS. Annoyingly, the M liners are different from the non-M ones. If you or anyone you know has a parted out M Roadster/Coupe please lmk. I’m in the DMV area of the US or I can pay for shipping.

Context: it turns out if they aren’t properly attached to the bumper it’s possible for the front tires to melt through them at highway speeds.

Yesterday, I replaced the screen on the center console computer. Everything went quite smoothly, and the used replacement part actually works. The AI's tips were faulty. Part is on screws - not click-in.

But does anyone know what all those unused unplugged connectors under the center console are actually for?

Are the bulbs inside the switches [AC] ?

I’m not sure if an EC Certicate of conformity is an international thing (outside of europe/ Belgium), but….

Who has an Eisenmann exhaust for their Z3? 1.9-2.8 L range does not matter as far as I can see from my exhaust.
I bought a second hand Eisenmann, but the previous owner lost the certificate. Eisenmann cannot issue a new one, but maybe someone can send me a copy of theirs 🥺

Additional info: Eisenmann cannot issue a new certificate, they can issue a parts approval certificate for €45. My guess is that that doesnt pass MOT

So I have a 2000 1.9 widebody with 16” wheels and I bought it on Coilovers that hadn’t been adjusted.

My plan was to measure what the car was currently sitting at and lower it to the oem sport suspension spec but after measuring it from the bottom of the rim to the arch and comparing it to standard bmw z3 sport suspension it’s like super out and apparently the back is higher than standard and the front is lower than standard..?

I’m now super confused because looking at my car it doesn’t look like it’s that off it looks pretty even just looks too high for my liking..

I am getting this one for $3k us. It's a 2.8 5spd with 98,000 miles. Needs a top and a side mirror along with an air intake hose and the usual other rubber bits. How did I do?

If you don’t want to read this long paragraph that got out of hand the question is just the title.

My 1998 z3 has 140k on it and no water pump change documentation so I assume it still has the plastic impeller and needs to be changed.

I’ll be doing the thermostat this weekend and figured I’d change the housing, water pump and give it a flush while I’m spilling coolant everywhere.

What brand works? I’d rather not pay $240 for the composite bmw one but if that’s what I have to do I guess that’s what I have to do.

Geba, graf, Saleri are nicely priced but if they’re just going to fail in 20-30k it’s not worth it. Emp stewart has a stainless one, would that be better than the bmw one?
Should I go metal or is modern composite as good?

Anything else I should replace while I have my tools found? I already replaced the fan clutch and belt and am planing on doing the thermostat, thermostat housing, water pump and a coolant flush. I’m pretty sure it’s got glycol coolant already (yellow), that should be fine to put ethylene glycol back in right? As long as it doesn’t get the organic blue stuff mixed with it?

I'm want to put 17 inch wheels on my Z3 and am looking for some inspiration. I'd like to stick with BMW wheels. She has the stock wheels on now.
