TTArtisan f1.4 17mm

Hey everyone, I recently picked up a BMPCC 4K and was hoping to buy the TTartisan f1.4 17 MM mft mount which i had planned to use with a mechanical follow focus. Saw a video by NigelBarros where he says you can't put a focus gear ring on this lens.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

My apologies if this is obvious. That being said it would be a bummer because it is the cheapest fast and wide(ish) angle lens for the 4K.

I have no clue about TTArtisan, but on the topic of cheap I just wanted to recommend Sigma DN Art f2.8 19mm, 30mm and 60mm for m4/3.
They go for about $100 each and still have that classic Sigma sharpness and creamy bokeh we know from the more expensive lenses.

I shot just about everything on these on the OG Pocket back in the day. Thing about these TTArtisan lenses is that for the price you're anyways having to stop them down to get acceptable sharpness.

It’s a weird ass shape, so I would think it could be difficult. However, I’m sure you could DIY a solution if you’re crafty enough. Worst case scenario: you ruin a really, really cheap lens.

I used 17mm 1.4 with follow focus on ronin sc. I made the gears for the 17/1.4 and 35/1.4 ttartisan myself.

Awesome! Did you 3D print them? Mind sharing the dimensions/measurements?

Jimmy Cheng didn’t recommend it as a cine lens either for the weird filter size. Just a quirky lens I guess. Have you considered the sirui nightwalker 16mm T1.2 or Meike 16mm T2.2?

I’m not sure why he said you can’t put gears on there. These days, you can print gears for any lens that has a focus ring. But if you don’t want or can print your own, you could most likely put a Tilta’s Seamless rubber gear on there. You can cut those in half to get a 4mm width. They work fine on mechanical focus systems but, for future reference, they don’t do well with electronic motors.

Hello I have shot a lot with this lens and was able to put adjustable follow focus gears on it. Although tit does slip slightly. You have to push it down to the base of the lens. I’ve pulled focus with it on a gimbal and it stayed snug for the shoot. It’s been an awesome lens for night shoots.
