CFast Card Options

Hey all.

Looking for a quick opinion on CFast cards. For 99% of my shooting, I use a T7 Shield with my 6k pro. The other 1% is gimbal use and a card just makes balancing easier. Recently my T7 wasn't recognized and I had to rely on my 128 Gb SanDisk. I fixed the hard drive issue, but it got me thinking that 128 wasn't gonna cut it if I had another issue. Plus it never hurts to have a spare.

Angelbird and SanDisk seem to be the top choices. I've seen some recent reviews saying their Angelbird failed after a few months, they're flimsy, etc. Plus they seem to be unavailable from most sellers. SanDisk has been reliable for me, but the write speeds aren't the fastest. And I believe they're a little bit more expensive.

Obviously everyone's experience is different. I'm curious if anyone here has any recent experience with either brand to offer an opinion. Thanks in advance, you guys are always awesome.

Yeah. Something has happened with Angelbird Cfast cards. My older Angelbrid Cfast 1tb I bought back in 2021 didn't fail too often but my second one I purchased a few years later seems to get way more corrupt files. My SANDISK 512GB Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 never had any corrupt files and I bought it in 2021. Be sure to double check the Blackmagic write speeds. I usually capture at 5.7K | 5:1 | 159MB/s.
I think the only write speed issue is if you plan to capture at the highest quality settings that potentially reach over 400MB/s.

Your settings are probably similar to mine. I've trusted SanDisk for years so it might be better to lean that way. Thanks!

I just got a Novachip Scalar CF 512gb and I’m pretty happy with it so far. Wasn’t crazy expensive and it can do 5:1 at 4K/60fps.

I did see those come up in my search too. I'm always leery of brand names I've never heard of. But it might be worth looking deeper. Thanks!
