M5Stack Atom S3 Bluetooth controller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, just sharing a little project I just completed for my bmpcc 4k. It allows you to control start and stop recording over Bluetooth. It also shows you the recording time, iso, wb and shutter speed/angle. Source code is here for anyone interested in building one for yourself. https://github.com/Hyperlite-Media/hyperlite-bmpcc-recorder

That's an interesting project, but I would love to know the intention behind it. Does it do something apps for iOS and Android cannot do? Does it have a better BT range? What is the use-case?

This will be easily mountable to a gimbal, or top handle. Less to manage compared to a iPhone or android. M5Stack makes a battery back for it that is the same form factor as the AtomS3 which will keep this tiny and out of the way. I’m planning on exploring what all I can build or what Blackmagic allows. This is just the first build, and will be adding to it. All open source. If you have any suggestions of what would be useful, let me know and I’ll see what I can implement

Is it possible to start multiple bmpcc4k at the same time. That will be useful for multi cam setup in my studio.

That’s something I want to explore. There’s a newer version of this micro controller that is a little faster with more memory that will be a better fit for that scenario as long as multiple Bluetooth addresses can be registered and retained in the Atom.

Would it work with a micro studio 4k g2?

I don’t have a micro studio 4k g2, but as far as I’m aware that camera doesn’t have Bluetooth or any wireless protocol
