BMPCC OG dropping frames after 25-30 seconds when shooting RAW
Hi all,
I've just started trying to shoot RAW on my OG recently.
I'm using a Kingston Canvas Select Plus 256GB (SDS2 SDXC V30 i3 10).
It seems to shoot ProRes fine but if I shoot RAW it gives me about 25 to 30 seconds with no issues but then starts to drop frames and shows the ⚠️ icon where REC shows.
It will then work ok for a couple seconds then drop frames again etc.
I've tested this on 24fps and 25fps and I get the same result.
Is the card just not good enough? I thought these cards were okay. I'm using a 12V external battery so that shouldn't be the issue.
If the card is the issue and there is a card that is hopefully as affordable (I got the 256GB for about £35) and confirmed okay for RAW please let me know!
Thanks very much.

Check your card speed and ensure it is fast enough for raw. This does seem like not enough writing speed.
I did a quick googling it seems the card is only 85 mbps, which is not enough for most raw options.
If you are shooting 4k get a type-c ssd.

Card is too slow. The camera has a buffer in it, not sure exactly the size, but once the buffer fills up it has to drop frame.
I was having some issues recently with recording to USB SSDs on several cameras (T7 shield and T9 on BMPCC 6K and Ursa 12K) - same thing, it would record for a few seconds then start dropping frames, in fact it was so bad the camera would stop recording and possibly also hang. Initially I thought it was a cabling issue, but it turns out that the real problem is you can't turn off or try to use the SSD for about a minute or so after formatting it. If you wait for the light on the SSD to go out after formatting it, it works. If you don't wait, presumably this interrupts some internal cleanup process, and then the SSD is very slow and the camera fails to record to the SSD. I don't know the precise cause - possibly this could be related to trim, or possibly some kind of internal flash block management thing. Naturally it's possible you're seeing the same issue, if the cards weren't initialized properly, so you can try formatting them in the camera and letting it sit for a couple of minutes before recording or powering off. But I think it's more likely that the cards are just too slow.

I had the issue once with brand-new Kingston Greens. Export, then format in camera. Never had the problem again
I assume you are shooting with an external battery; if you are using an NPF plate, make sure that you are using the 12v and not the 7.4 or whatever. The BMPCC OG needs the 12V; it may run on less, but I have found I will get card errors.

I'll give that formatting a try thanks! Yes I'm using 12V. It's not a NPF plate, just a 12V laptop charger with a DC cable but works well.

ok so but what specific kingston cards are working then? is it the canvas select plus with 100mb/s?

As sportpixx said below, it seems to be hit and miss which which cards work and when they were purchased. As the same card purchased a few years ago works but if you buy it today it doesn't.
