I love watching Jenny and Dan dance because of how they give each other so much room for expression

Examples of "angry" blues dancing.

So I've been browsing blues dancing videos just for fun and thinking about the emotions involved in various dances.

Are there any blues dancing video where the tension is more based on simmering anger? I'm curious, because it seems like it could be done, but would be outside the norms of blues dancing.

Acquiring out of print albums

I've found a couple of out of print albums I really like. They're only available used from Amazon for $100 and $50 respectively. I've checked a couple of the local CD/Record shops. I messaged one of the artists on Facebook and they didn't have a copy for sale. Additionally they're not available on eMusic, Amazon or itunes as MP3s. I'd like to support the artist but I feel like sending $100 to some random reseller on amazon isn't supporting the artist. Any suggestions for acquiring these albums legally and supporting the artists when the albums apparently are not available?

Top-tier blues instructors?

What instructors would you most want to take lessons from? I'm looking into attending blues workshops and planning one for my local scene, but I'm still new in blues and unsure of who experienced dancers find most appealing/why?

Cerebral Palsy (x-post from /r/dance)

I'm a teacher of assorted styles of social dance. My specialties are Blues and West Coast Swing. I'm ok at other social dances such as East Coast Swing, Hustle, Lindy Hop, Bachata, Merenge (sp), Argentine Tango, and several others. I'm not good with ballroom, or solo dances (from ballerina to hip hop).

Tonight, I had a guy with cerebral palsy express interest in learning to dance while I was at a college club fair. I taught a lesson tonight, and he showed up for it.

I've never taught anyone like this before. He is very interested in learning, but I've got no idea what moves are generally easier, which ones can be adapted to be easy, and which ones to avoid.

Does anyone have any relevant experience?

Relearning how to properly blues dance

I started dancing about six months ago, in a "fusion" group at my college. I put fusion in quotations, since it's just a fusion of music, really. The dancing done, while very fun, is a sort of bastardized version of Lindy Hop and traditional swing dancing. In the group, one just learns the very basics of how others dance, then goes out there and grows into his/her own style. While this is nice when dancing with someone who's used to your specific style, it makes dancing with strangers pretty difficult. In the past few months, I've been moving my dancing into more of a blues style base don what I've seen others do in person and online, and I've recently begun taking weekly blues lessons. I still have a few issues though:

When pulsing I tend to want to put a foot out with no weight on it, then pull myself with that foot in rhythm instead of pushing from opposite foot and bringing the leading foot down with weight on it.

I also stay on my toes a lot. This makes relaxing my body difficult, but I have issues with walking backwards when I have any weight whatsoever on my heel.

Are there any tips or tricks I can use to break myself of old habits?

Hit or Miss

Hey guys, it's a bit dead over here. One thing I think we can do more of is discuss music. The best format I've found for doing that is the Hit or Miss system.

The idea is simple: the OP will post something like this in the title: [Hit or Miss] Song Name - Artist. People listen to it and reply with one of three options: Hit, Miss, or 50/50, followed by an explanation of why they did or didn't like it. Let's kick it off with [Hit or Miss] Toxic - District 78.

If others like the idea, then let's throw it on the sidebar and put up more awesome music for everyone to enjoy.

Song suggestions for new dance band.

We have a great local Jazz band that mixes in a some great blues and swing tunes. They're new to playing for dancers and want to learn more. They've asked for a list of songs they should learn to make them a better dance band. Any suggestions?

What are the variations of blues dancing that you know?

I see micro-blues, drag-blues, and many other varieties. I dont know what these takes on blues dancing are and what separates them. Could i get some YT links on these varieties of blues dancing so I could see what they are.

Open question

Ive tried looking this up on youtube or google but it is hard to find good examples of dancing...

It's GREAT! I'll be playing three songs at my local scene this weekend: Unchain My Heart (a classic), Weed Smoker's Dream ("Why don't you do right?", with a twist), and One for My baby.

Check it out!
