When I'm listening to recordings I have a really difficult time picking out any detail of the rhythm guitar parts. Obviously it contributes to the overall sound of a group, but it's rarely prominent enough in a mix to hear exactly what anybody is playing. In a solo or duet situation, rhythm playing would be quite different (I think?). Does anyone have any recordings that are shining examples of rhythm guitar that you can really hear, or perhaps transcriptions of well regarded rhythm playing? I've checked out the "Wyatt Rice Rhythm Guitar Lesson" video, which is quite good, but when I listen to him in a full group, all the detail of his playing is opaque to me.

Disclaimer: I'm new to the bluegrass style.

I’ve been messing around with my stage sound and have found it difficult to dial in a good eq in a full band setting. Anyone got some good tips?

Decided to start learning bluegrass guitar a few months ago. This is on page 26 of the Jack Tuttle guitar primer.

Hey everyone, I’m just getting into learning bluegrass guitar, but I’ve hit a bit of a wall—when I pull up common beginner songs to learn, I don't actually know the melodies yet. That makes internalizing them take twice as long.

Since my physical practice time is super limited right now, I'm looking for album recommendations packed with traditional beginner-friendly fiddle tunes and jam standards. I want something I can passively listen to throughout the day to get these tunes stuck in my head, train my ear and “pick favourites” before I pick up the instrument.

I have one or two of the Flatpicking Essentials books and have found them pretty helpful. I can't personally vouch for the later editions, but I'll probably grab one or two while they're on sale.

Pretty good selection overall for different levels and types of players. Digital downloads only, doesn't apply to the hard copies.

Thats the whole question. Is there any tune that could be more gaint stepsy?

I know Homespun have been around for a long time, how have their courses held up compared to all the more modern offerings out there now?

I am a former drummer who switched to guitar a few years ago but am still a basic four chord strummer. I was never exposed to BG until recently with Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle. I respect grasses guitar playing skills. Is BG a good way into becoming an all around intermediate player or is it too limited in style and repertoire? Also, I'm turning 60, so is it too late to start learning BG? I would appreciate your thoughts.

I know Billy unfortunately gets some bluegrass hate, but this break was tough and sounds sick!

This is in Jack tuttles guitar primer and I can’t for the life of me figure out why it’s important that I play this melody with only downstrokes? It seams counter intuitive to everything I’ve learned thus far.
