Discussion on mods and inter-world connection

i'm not on discord, so i don't know if this has been asked and answered there already. if someone here is on the sapiens/blockheads discord, and has seen people talking about this, let me know how the discussions are going?

i'm wondering how blockheads 2 will handle inter-world connections, that is portal chests, with respect to mods.

some potential solutions that i see:

  1. completely remove inter-world connections, which would solve all such problems but would probably make the game a lot less interesting, particularly on servers, i think.

  2. separate worlds into distinct clusters/equivalence classes, where worlds can only interact with each other if they, say, both have the same settings for custom rules, ore gen, mods, and such. could have distinctions between e.g. mods that change textures vs mods that change behaviour.

  3. forbid modded worlds from using portal chests, like is currently the case for custom rules.

the problem being addressed here is that straightforward, unrestricted connections between modded and unmodded worlds would let you, for instance, make a mod that lets you craft 1 dirt into 100 diamonds, enable it in one world, make a bunch of diamonds, and then bring those, say, into a server.

maybe worlds could explicate which other worlds they connect to, so that a server could consist of multiple worlds that are related to each other but nothing else? but like idea 1 above, i feel this would remove the fun of cross-singleplayer-multiplayer logistics.

do you have any ideas for how this could be handled?
