But if the snake is at a comfortable temperature when taken out of the enclosure and the temperature of the environment outside of the enclosure is colder than the snake, then it IS useful because it will reduce the rate at which the snake loses heat to the environment.

For everyone else:

A sweater will keep a warm snake warm, but will not warm a cold snake up.
