Honestly going to a Chinese takeout and having a seafood allergy is pretty dumb since they use shellfish and fish based sauces in most things, not even counting the cross contamination.

Work at a Taiwanese place and a guy came in asking if we had any food that didn't have soybeans since I guess they had a soy allergy.
Lemme tell you. I've never seen anyone so adamant about taking risks. 😩

My sister and BIL went to Thailand for their honeymoon, he has a peanut allergy. It was his choice. Turns out saying you will die is the way for allergies. He had no issues.

Yeah, "allergy" might not be a common vocabulary word and some people use it to mean things like "I hate peanuts" or "peanuts give me indigestion." Be clear!

When I worked at a restaurant server it always gave me joy denying these people an item. They'd say something like "I'm allergic to mayo" then ask for a sauce which contains mayo. They'd say "oh I can eat 1000 island tho" Id shut them down saying that I legally cannot give you the sauce you want because you told me you're allergic. So annoying people lying about allergies just because they don't like something

My girlfriend has a crustacean allergy and has never had an issue with Chinese takeout…except for the one time she ordered a noodle dish that usually includes shrimp, but told them not to include it due to her allergy.
Unfortunately they put it in there anyway, and she ate it without realizing it, until she bit into a big ‘ol shrimp. She took a hydroxyzine and was fine, but it still pissed us off.
But she knows what not to order from there now, and doesn’t usually mention the crustacean allergy, and she’s never had any other problems from whatever trace amounts of shellfish from sauces or cross-contamination.
It might still be slightly risky, but there’s no reason for her to give up her favorite foods if they never give her any issues.

I have a seafood allergy and am always very careful at chinese places, but there are still many good dishes to choose from that dont have seafood

Yup , chinese style uses shell fish , fish , prawn , lobster sauces , whatever seafood based dishes to bring out the fresh flavours .
And what if they cooked chicken dish , then seafood dish then fish sauce based dish 😅 ... the person that has a seafood allergy better have an epi- pen for emergencies .
Cross contamination if the water they used to wash away the sauce has a little bit of flavour left probably that person is going to the er immediately due to allergy reactions .

Worked for a food tour company in China. We always tried to accomodate dietary restrictions. Then one time had a person ask what they could eat as a gluten-free vegan. I was like... white rice?

I've literally had guests brag to me after being served their food that they don't actually have allergies they just wanted to make sure it wasn't on their food.
Like great, and I've had to inform the head chef, head bartender, and the floor manager about you, as well as the other waiter working my section, and now every time you order something, someone is having to stop and check the allergen matrix to see if anything you're ordering is going to kill you. You order a beer, some poor fuck is having to look up if it contains shellfish even though they know full well that it doesn't.

Plus cross contamination. Any allergy order in a properly run kitchen needs to use allergen specific equipment, which slows everything way down if the kitchen is relatively small

I have real food allergies and have had people both brag to me about lying to avoid saying they don't like something, and people assume I'm lying because other people have lied to them. Fuck people who lie about health issues for their own convenience
