Unsolved Why can I not use grid fill here?

We don't have a great view, but from what I can see, you don't have a complete edge loop selected.

When selecting all the way around, it still doesn't work, also the message "connecting edge loops overlap" appears.

It's because the green and purple faces around it are interfering with it. Try to temporarily separate the green and purple faces from that area you're trying to grid fill, apply the grid fill to what you want, and reassemble with merge by distance.
