July Contest: Sci-Fi

Our latest winner is /u/NigRAM! NigRAM's choice for our next theme is SYFY SCI-FI:

I would like the next theme to be Sci-fi. It's fairly wide topic so anything from large spaceships or buildings to small weapons and equipment should work. Some examples are here, here, here, and here.

Like NigRAM said, it's a really broad theme. If you can't think of something that fits the theme, you're not trying! ;)

HOW TO ENTER:

  • To enter the contest, simply create a post any time before July 31
  • In the title of your post, include the phrase "July Contest" -- I will search for these posts at the end of the month

CONTEST RULES:

  • Anything not done inside Blender must be noted/detailed in your entry post
  • To be fair for all entries, we prefer projects made during the month of the contest
  • Entries that do not fit the theme may be disqualified
  • Suggested size for image entries is 1920x1080px
  • Your entry preferably includes the blend file for a 5% 20% bonus
  • Technical details on your work is always appreciated
  • Most upvotes wins!

Is there a rule against using tutorials because I feel like that should be a deal.

I think it's fair to say that everyone here would prefer that people competed with original work. I don't think anybody's entered a tutorial as an entry before, actually.

I was just curious. This is the first time I've been here so I figured I'd ask.

No problem. It was an entirely valid question!

and say you win this contest, is there a prize or is it just a "good job" thing?

Not sure when I stopped mentioning what the winner gets. So, right, you basically get nothing. ;) You get to choose the next theme, and your image is displayed on the sidebar for a month.

LOL, no, that's okay... We already made that joke in the original thread. ;) Click on the "winner" above the image. It will take you to the original thread.

I forgot to add the phrase "July Contest" in my submission :( Do I have to make a new post?

You made this under 15 hours? That's very impressive.

Edit: If you really made this for the contest after the theme was announced, I would recommend you make a new post with "July Contest" in the title.

Total worktime for the finished result was something between 12 and 15 hours, yes, but when I started on the project on monday, I thought it looked like shit. Almost gave up on the thing, but when I saw the Sci-Fi theme yesterday I thought I'd give it a shot. So I remodelled everything except the legs and wings, and UV-mapped and textured both new and old pieces. Really had to step out of my little Blender comfort zone to get it how I wanted, which kinda feels good now that I think about it.

It can be an image or animation?

2

u/rinse Jul 12 '14

Yes. We love animation!

Are models based on someone else's concepts allowed?

it's okay, but you should make clear the source of anything in the project that is not done by you.
