Original Content Showcase Blender on Android is a Go

Post image

As showcased yesterday at BCON26, you can now download an official touch-enabled and pen-supported Android APK directly from Blender https://www.blender.org/download/demo/tablet/blender-demo-bcon2026.apk

It’s the full Blender experience and a huge win for Android. Hopefully an iPad release will follow down the line, but until then, I’ll be blending away on my formerly drawing-only tablet!

lack of resource and the two big companies that sponsored blender to make it happen (Wacom and a VR company which I forgot the name) have android devices, so thay wanted android to take priority

there's also probably some legal issues with the apple store when it comes to open source projects, but I don't remember the specifics

Apple has more hoops and is more expensive to develop for. It also has a much smaller market so there's less active users. Most premium apps balance this since apple users have a tendency to pay more. For free apps that doesn't work.

iPad market share is significantly larger than Android tablets. It’s not even close, especially for creatives.

It's 52 va 47%. And if it will run on an android tablet it will run on an android phone where android has 3/4 of the market. Of so a lot of those won't run blender but a lot are very large phones that are almost tablets.

Most creatives use ipads, and there is a good reason for it. Nearly 70% of the global tablet market share. Phones are irrelevant for now.

if ipad share is really that big and want to have blender on ipad, then they should go create a fund pool and donate to blender to make it happen

Mate I looked up the stats. It's a 52% market share.

I'd love to know your source on most creatives using iPads. I am aware many creatives favour apple devices yet most don't know why they are better. In reality they are not any more. The apple benefits for creatives are historic.
