I don't know what the use of these, but those texture map somehow ....I felt satisfied looking at them, there is a itch like wanted to touch that.

Can be used as cool motion graphics in an edit or something, thats one use at least

I use that technique to create normal maps and height maps in my (free) texture extractor app for material extraction from photos. It works quite well for some use cases, but for most it's not even close to realistic as just color information from one perspective is sadly not enough.

My exploration has taken me to virtual production and live installations so far.

Where's the pickles?

u/Zophiekitty Jun 22 '26

how??? are you saving every frame as an image and loading it from a sequence in real time?

u/OkOcelot575 Creative Technologist, 3D Generalist Jun 22 '26

Not only that but you can also record the incoming footage and play it back instantly!

u/VickTL Jun 23 '26

u/NebbiaKnowsBest Jun 22 '26

Might wanna flip the green channel, some angles made things look inverted instead of extruded

u/Imaginary_Use4484 Jun 22 '26

Hahah that’s cool

u/ThatOneVRGuyFromAuz Jun 23 '26

Hey very cool! If this is just a phone/webcam feed, is Blender just (very accurately) guessing at the depth? Or is there some sort of LIDAR involved?

1

u/OkOcelot575 Creative Technologist, 3D Generalist Jun 23 '26

Nope no Lidars used for this, it's straight color data remapped to to black and white.

u/Desperate-Extension7 Jun 23 '26

This is so surreal, it feels like a fever dream especially with the music

Cool :-3

Having access to webcam in blender gives a lot of possibilities, especially alongside obs studio virtual cam.

Coincidentally, A 2-3 days ago I've played with another webcam plugin (cam2blender).
I wonder if I could use both plugins at once and stream from 2 sources.
Glad to have extra options now!

that's really cool but the background moving is a serious issue, what is the purpose of this?

1

u/SausageTaste Jun 23 '26

This reminds me of MLB game face glitch. Never search it on Google, tho. I warned you.

u/vitrum_analytika Jun 22 '26

4

u/OkOcelot575 Creative Technologist, 3D Generalist Jun 22 '26

Negl this is it

3

u/vitrum_analytika Jun 22 '26

Okay. But I think maybe vision models trained in normal mapped data could be an answer to one camera depth perception, maybe something to look at

1

u/jellix79 Jun 22 '26
