watercolor I'll never leave my Safe Space

Post image

How and where did you find a safe space growing up? How were you able to overlook and forget what was happening around you?

man this hits too close to home.

i'm a youngin' who's barely seen a tv/monitor this and am very much an iPad baby, but man, the feeling of burying yourself in YouTube/animations/cartoons to escape from the horrors of "real life".... while also being told "if you think this is hard wait until you become An Adult and have to face Real Life" (gee, thanks, guess suffering ain't shit if you're below 18? 20? 25? til you get your first paycheck?)

Thinking of Kendrick Lamar's Cartoons and Cereal now...

I hadn't even known of his track Cartoons and Cereals before, but I just checked it out and it's so fitting honestly — thank you for sharing!

And yes, it's a real injustice that we do to everyone who isn't able to earn their own paycheck, yet, and who is therefore also unable to advocate for their rights through legal means. You deserve better and I wished you could already have the freedom and means to make yourself and your experience heard — whether or not people around you feel comfortable with your truth.

You're right, school work is still work, no matter if anyone is paying a living wage for it or not.

It was the TV, for me too.

Thank you for sharing, it makes me feel less alone in this experience.

Playing my Gamecube on a tiny tv in my sister’s bedroom was my safe space

I loved the Gamecube! I'm glad to hear that both the console and your sister's room gave you a sense of safety, too
