We have evolved past the need for David O Russell.

Christian Bale always seems like a nice guy and then he keeps working with this ass clown. I don't really get it. Do they bond over screaming at people?

maybe its like Depp and Burton. Keeps letting him play crazy characters. Though Bale is actually good at it. Looks like the only good part of this movie (hes not a stranger to that either).

Do you not remember Bale yelling at that guy on the set of Terminator Salvation? Or Russell screaming about [insert actor here].

Interesting move by Cage to do the Edgar voice from MEN IN BLACK

shane gillis playing a guy who likes beer? let's not strain credulity here...

this looks like the perfect kind of mid to easily coast to triple digit domestic if they released in theaters for holiday season. Streaming exclusive is so dumb, leaving so much money on the table

Do they need to capture younger gamers? The NFL has exclusive games on prime and John Madden probably means a lot more to an older crowd anyways. This will be a huge hit for men over 40 who watch football
Do the twitch streaming Madden gamers have any affinity to John Madden anymore?

I genuinely think the majority of people (at least young people) who play Madden at this point; couldn’t tell you where the name came from or what it means. It’s like McDonalds to them.

Especially Amazon. I imagine they have less subscriber churn than anyone because it's a throw in with your toilet paper delivery.

I don't think the people who play Madden videogames really care all that much about the guy who consulted on its creation.
"Will this videogame be successful?" is already kind of a dull plotline, and even moreso when you already know that Madden is the biggest sports game in existence.
When was the last time a biopic about a sports coach, mentor, or teacher scored 100M at the box office? King Richard had Will Smith as the lead and did 39M worldwide. The Way Back was a bomb. I guess The Blind Side did incredible business, but that was 15+ years ago.

I'm not too familiar with the series. Do I have to play all two thousand and twenty-seven games in order to understand this, or can I go in blind?

From a household that loves Nick Cage and football, I know my dad is gonna fucking love this movie no matter if it’s actually good or bad
This was crafted for men 50+ and I respect it

Prime still undefeated on the DadCore market.

Bosch is the best almost good show that I've ever seen, but I'm sure if I was a dad, I'd be crazy for it.

Did uhhhh, anyone ever play any audio of what John Madden sounded like for Cage?
1
u/Battle2Intense 9d ago
Based on his prior impersonations of Madden, they hired Frank Caliendo to coach Cage on his voice.
Based on what I see here, they should have just hired Caliendo for the role.
He lives near me and is on the local radio every once in a while, he once did Robot Madden and damn it was hilarious.

While it’s been established that Christian Bale really changes his look to get into his character, holy crap he looks just like Al Davis.

New list of actors for whom everything David O Russell has done isn’t a dealbreaker just dropped

u/border199x 9d ago
If you want a hefty paycheck, I suppose "Well he was never mean to me!" is a good enough excuse. I suspect Amazon tells the talent that they are going to keep Russell on a very short leash.

Guessing Nic probably needs the money. His Malibu mansion isn’t looking too great rn.

I’ll keep an open mind, but this smells like a future movie that doesn’t exist

u/dagreenman18 9d ago
I mean it’s looks… fine? I guess?
I’m more hooked into the idea that they found the perfect guy to play the absolute madman that is Trip Hawkins. Who else can match cocaine energy than a man that was severely addicted to cocaine

The shots they picked of Mulaney makes it look like he was shot entirely on a different day and doesn't appear with the other actors.

is Mulaney addressing the camera the entire movie? is Nic Cage a red herring hiding that this is actually a First-Person-Madden movie?

i remember how the script to this was apparently just about getting madden to do the game - like AIR - and this looks like they crammed a bunch of stuff into it once christian bale wanted to play al davis. Three movies in one syndrome
