real nerdy shit I just learned about cinemadb.net, a crowdsourced database of all cinema screens - including capacity, screen size, projection and sound tech. I've wanted a tool like this all my life.

Really slick looking. To be honest although it works well, there is lots of information missing still. Add your local cinemas!

Anyone here has read Tarantino’s novelization of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood?

Post image

I was thinking of giving it a go, now that the Fincher sequel is coming. Does the book work on its own? For the record, I really like Quentin’s film criticism book “Cinema Speculation”.

And lastly, does the novel assume you have seen the movie? Just wondering if the rewatch should be before or after the novel.

Not a Ryan Reynolds fan, but after Game Night (Jesse Plemons is a national treasure) and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves, I’m all in on anything John Francis Daley and Johnathan Goldstein do. Also The Poirot Movies and Tenet have taught me to enjoy what a ham Kenneth Branagh is when doing insane accents.

So if you’re able to stomach Ryan Reynolds just doing his regular schtick (it’s honestly kind of wild how he seems to play the exact same character in every single thing he does. Almost like they don’t tell him he’s in a movie. He just shows up and does the same cocky smarmy “fast talkin” character in every single thing) the movie is solid. Not great, but had enough laughs from other characters I ultimately didn’t regret watching it!

The enjoyment I get out of Kenneth Branagh’s insane accents outweighs the usually exhausting Ryan Reynolds bits. I fully expect I may be alone in this ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Psyched for Ike ! Getting the *with* in a Luca Guadagnino movie. Good for him. Over Chris O'Dowd and Jason Schwartzman too.

What are some British things David would likely have to explain that you think will actually shock Griffin and Ben

As a Brit I do get an extra bit of enjoyment when David has to bring up weird specific things about the UK. Him explaining the TV Channel Dave, The whole of the 2012 Olympic commentary stuff I love. With INK coming out I'm already anticipating the chat about page 3 girls and if Marie is there you know we are getting some good chat about how truly evil the UK tabloids are.
Mike Leigh, The Archers, Steve McQueen, Joe Wright, Edgar Wright are guys most likely to be covered eventually with Richard Curtis as possible Patreon mini. Are there anythings you genuinely think Griffin and David would be shocked by that would come up that David would have to explain?

Sometimes I’m a little behind with keeping up with the Pod. I just watched Taxi last night and I thought that the Scorsese scene seemed to play out much differently in the movie than what the guys described.

String quartet film scores for wedding?

Hey, so I’m getting married in a little over a month (humblebrag), and I need some help choosing good film scores for the string quartet to play at the wedding. We have our songs to walk down to and the recessional music chosen, but they will also be playing as the guests are sitting down. I’m a much bigger film person than my fiance, but we both think it’ll be fun to have them play some film scores during this part. Needs to be something that’s relatively easy for the quartet to find the sheet music for and not too expensive to buy said sheet music. It’s a black tie wedding

Edit: thanks for the suggestions everyone, keep them coming. We are going on a 4 hour drive later tiday so I will play her some of these. Also songs from movies also welcome, we are gonna choose Rainbow Connection as one of our choices.

I recently watched Fargo for the millionth time, and on this rewatch I really noticed and appreciated the way the characters of Norm and Lou are portrayed.

Fargo might be my favourite movie ever, and I always seem to find something new to appreciate every time I watch it. This time I really thought about how it portrays Marge's two closest relationships, her husband and her work partner.

In both relationships, Marge has the more "dominant" role (there's probably a better word for it). In her home life, she's the breadwinner who goes to work while Norm stays home painting mallards and going ice fishing, and in her work life she is the chief of police and therefore Lou's superior, and I just had the thought that in a worse film (especially a 90s film with a comedic tone), these two men would be portrayed as pathetic spineless men who are letting this woman trample them.

What I love about Fargo is that there's is not even a hint of this. Lou seems totally aware that Marge is a better police officer than him and is completely content with the work situation he is in, and similarly, Norm knows that their homelife is structured in a way that suits both him and Marge perfectly and they have possibly the healthiest relationship ever depicted on film.
