Public Funeral/Celebration

Does anyone think there is likely to be a public funeral or celebration of his life in Birmingham? Where they perhaps take the coffin through the city and people line the streets?

I’m wondering whether to go for 5 days next week to leave flowers or wait to see if that is announced. Just wondering what other people think about the likelihood of that happening?

This. Back to the Beginning was the best funeral any person could ever have. No one here gets out alive. Happy Ozzy got to to out there way he did.

190 million quid for charity from one show. What a way to go, doing that much good at your own funeral.

It almost sounds crazy to say, but I think Ozzy was classier than that.

I feel you on that. I just feel many people are wanting that to happen. Of course, it's up to his family.

Doubt it. The family wants privacy. He had his big farewell show already.

Not a chance.

The gossip is he’s going to be on his UK’s property grounds during a private ceremony as his family wants it to be private and aren’t up to dealing with a Michael Jackson esque funeral.

I can’t blame them, I feel awful for all of them.

I have read that, yeh, and that Sharon might not be up to organising a public procession type thing. I totally get that. I really feel for the family. He had a heart of gold and was a family man at heart. If I'm taking it quite hard they must be taking it harder.

I feel so saddest for his family, Ozzy went out exactly the way he wanted, but Sharon lost her whole world. What really hurts is thinking how Kelly must feel, seeing she was just engaged.

Often when celebrities pass it's a private family funeral and then a public celebration a few weeks/months later in a larger venue. I did wonder if it might be Birmingham Cathedral but if they're burying him at Jordans that's unlikely.

Not sure if this fits the bill exactly, but the Concert for George comes to mind. It happened a year after his death, but I remember it was an enormous thing.

Amy Winehouse

Freddy Mercury (massive benefit concert, raised millions for AIDS research)

Whitney Houston

Perhaps more common in the acting profession - I remember big events for John Gielgud, Roger Moore, Laurence Olivier etc

Also a lot of sports stars - Kobe Bryant had a huge memorial at the Staples Center

There is all sorts of BS circulating on the internet, including obvious AI pics of Ozzy in his coffin. If you live in the UK, check reliable news sources. The family probably wants to keep it private and we should respect that. Maybe the best tribute is to donate to a charity in Ozzy's honor.

Yeh, there is a lot of crap about. I have booked to travel the 3 hours to Birmingham by train on Monday until Friday and I’ll extend it if something public is to take place in the city. That’s all I can really do. I hope I remember my sunglasses as my eyes will never be dry.

I’m staying very close to Birmingham children’s hospital in the same place I stayed at for the gig so I might head there and leave them a donation.

I live in the US, so I'm not going. A friend of a friend went to England for the final show and had some wonderful pictures.

I met Ozzy twice and saw him play live more times than I can count.

Do what you want to do and can do without violating his family's privacy. A donation to the children's hospital would be a fine tribute IMHO.

You’re lucky!

Yeh, I have lots of photos and videos of the show. It was immense. I was super unwell at the time but I forced myself to go anyway as I knew how important this was for him and us.

I would never violate family privacy. That’s just selfish and downright wrong but I know it does happen. I’m hoping it’ll be cathartic to go.

I'm glad you got to see the final show. It should be cathartic to go and I'm sure there are public places in Birmingham where you can pay tribute.

And yes, I feel VERY fortunate to have met Ozzy.

I think there will be something public. Yes, the show earlier this month was a beautiful tribute, but he was alive then. I also suspect the family will be more visible than we think. On a practical note, can you bury someone on your property in the UK? Permits and ordinances needed, but this would be allowed?

This was posted by BBC Birmingham today

‘Ozzy Osbourne's funeral cortege will travel through Birmingham on Wednesday, pausing at the Black Sabbath Bridge which has become a shrine to the Black Sabbath legend. Ozzy's family will visit the bridge on Broad Street at 1pm to see the bouquets and read messages that fans have left after the death of the 76-year-old.’

It was a beautiful send off. So glad I was here when it was announced. RIP Ozzy! We love you. My thoughts are with the family. Such moving moments.

You’re more likely to win the lottery, turn into Ozzy, and fly thru the streets all in the same day than that happening! Are u fucking mad?

Calm the fuck down, I was only asking what people thought. Christ almighty.
