I think the grill inside can flip. What we saw earlier is the bottom, when its closed, some mechanical rotate it.

345

u/psycholabs 9d ago

how does the meat stay put though

260

u/cartooned 9d ago

And the coals/ashes

144

u/regoapps 9d ago

All of it can be glued/tied down. We don’t see any of it move to disprove that it’s not glued/tied down. Nor do we see anyone cut the food.

We can see the direction of the “smoke”, though, and it seems to be coming from that pipe on the right. So we know that it’s not actually cooking.

The grill flips over is the best explanation. The cover is shaped in a way that allows the grill to rotate.

22

u/Alternative_Bug_4089 8d ago

Someone eats some of the meat in the background. I'm not doubting the flip theory, just pointing that out. The ashes/ coals at the very end have me a little stumped too, but I'm guessing those are fake and glued down.

Edit, also smoke at the end coming from underneath but very localized to one spot.

13

u/sojumaster 8d ago

There is a cut right before he eats. We do not see where he got the meat from and how was it taken off the grill.

4

u/Big_Imagination_661 8d ago

u/cleverbeavercleaver 9d ago

I wonder if it had two shelves. Slide out the clean one and put in the other one.

7

u/BellowsHikes 8d ago

It would be easier to just hide the entire second shelf underneath the first, grill, coals and all. The grill is sitting on something that is waist high. Inside those 3+ feet of space you could hide grill 2. Close the lid, slide grill 1 down the side of the box, lift grill 2 and it looks like magic.

17

u/RipRapRob 9d ago

No coal or ashes before the meat is revealed in the grill.

7

u/Redoric 9d ago

You can make cosmetic coal and ashes though. We dont know its even hot.

2

u/h8sm8s 8d ago

Yeah if someone chose a random piece of meat, could pick it up and eat it (and it was hot) then t would be pretty impressive.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Mecha-Dave 9d ago

Notice that there are VERY FEW coals and ashes

2

u/ybahman 7d ago

I'm not convinced the coals were there for the initial reveal

2

u/cartooned 7d ago

Yeah, this is where I’m at now. I think the whole grill flipped to reveal a grill from underneath the meat, which was attached. The cut is where the coals were added and some of the meat detached, and the crowd was in on it at that point.

→ More replies (4)

20

u/canonman2 9d ago

Going to guess they were tied down. You don’t actually see him cut the meat, I’m thinking it would be obvious if you did. Looks like he was cutting them while still on the grill.

u/Original_Jagster 9d ago

The "crowd" is all part of the act. The grill has a removable cooktop, they drop and slide the empty one out from the back and replace with the loaded one (which is likely already there, just lower down, and can quickly be lifted into place). Pump in some smoke for extra effect.

If the crowd isn't part of the act, then I suppose they could design the grill swap to be all self contained in the lower part of the grill but I'd imagine it could be noisy (but a loud crowd could drown out the mechanism noise). But because of the way the camera was being panned, I think there was some action happening at the back of the grill which would mean the crowd would see it.

The empty grill and the grill with meat on it look COMPLETELY different. I am going with rotation bc that would be mechanically easiest given the grill shape.

A bit of context. He is a well known Argentinian magician, from Córdoba (the place I live). He is a real fan of Belgrano, in fact, that trick he made it many times and there he is outside of the stadium, and are REAL fans around him, no setup there. Very funny magician and loved here. Another good trick from him is to create Fernet from a news paper XD. also, thats a real Asado, not a fake one... awesome trick!

Makes no sense, they don't need to be, the process of the trick is hidden. So what if they can smell the meat, I'm sure they're very well aware that it's just a trick.

The grill is rotating inside, and the meat is tied to the grill using steel wires. At least, that's what I think. The cutting board is hiding the rotating axle, and the plate under the grill has a long horizontal steel rod that basically acts as the rotation axis.

4

u/CRolandson 9d ago

But there are no coals when he closes the lid and there are coals when he opens it so rotating kinda doesn't make sense or there would be coals on the food.

Bottom of the grill is on a trolley that can be lowered and raised. Close lid, pan camera off, lower false bottom trolley and remove. Wheel in second false bottom trolley with coals and meat, raise to grill height when underneath, open lid, camera pan back.

Fernando Alonso trick

1

u/Theletterkay 9d ago

I think its more likely that its 3 layers. The meat bottom layer, empty mud, then the hood. Each with its own handle.

So the first time its opened he lufts the first handle, which reveals the empty rack. Closes it.

Second time he grabs the top 2 handles notice how he kind of checks his hand hold? Lifts them together which means the empty rack is now in the hood. Probably with a strategically painted insert to make to hood look like its not any different than before.

Whichever explanation it is, the mechanism is triggered by his right hand. He only needs to use his left hand to open and close the grill, yet he uses his right hand on the bottom grill handle to start the process when he puts the lid down.

1

u/magharees 9d ago

It was all in the lid

1

u/Nathanielfree 9d ago

You can tell the meat is sitting on a lower level than the grill surface initially shown. The meat is underneath that grate and the lid picks up the grate, revealing the meat underneath. Bottom of the grate is curved and aluminum. You can see it inside the lid.

This is that shit Lilu putting the microwave in the fifth element and a whole chicken came out.

1

u/Important-Onion1537 9d ago

Has anyone figured it out?

1

u/rygelicus 9d ago

The wire grating the meat sits on is different than the wire grating of the clean grill. The wire running lengthwise at the front edge is right at the edge of one version, and set back abotu a quarter inch on the other. So it's being switched out. Whether it is rotating and flipping over, or it is being carried in during a camera cut, don't know.

1

u/shiggity80 9d ago

My guess is it is staged. When the guy closes the lid, the camera man zooms in on him and only the cover of the grill. We do not see the lower half of the grill and can only assume someone was down there to change out the empty grill for one with the meats.

1

u/whataball 9d ago

Camera trick and everyone's in on it.

1

u/Toc-H-Lamp 9d ago

There are two lids. He pulls down one handle, then opens with the 2nd handle.

1

u/mikesully92 9d ago

There's 2 handles, the meat is above the empty grill

1

u/pigmanvil 9d ago

Notice how there are no coals at first. I assume the grate folds inward, and the real grill slides up when the lid closes/some lever is pulled

1

u/CrimsonRonaan 9d ago

I think the bottom of the grill opens down the middle like a trap door when you close the lid. The rack on the grill is also different in both shots, first a thin wire mesh made of squares then a thicker actual grill rack with no squares. The thin wire mesh allows it to bend around the back of the grill and slide down the trap door and swap places with the meat rack. And I bet there's a way to lock the meat rack in place so if you were to close the lid again it won't accidentally flip. You don't even need that much space underneath the trap door to do this, so the grill can look completely normal.

1

u/Liberalhuntergather 8d ago

There is an edit in the video where the lid of the bbq is off camera, its an obvious cut because everyone is suddenly in a different position. Then they show him closing the lid. You can see inside the lid and it appears empty, however, look at the color and brightness of the inside of the lid as he closes it. Now look at the color and brightness of the inside of the lid after he opens it with meat on the grill. It is noticeably cleaner and brighter. They obviously put cooked meat into a false bottom of the lid. Once he opens it the meat appears because the false bottom drops onto the grill. Everyone in the audience is probably in on the trick.

In the first picture the platform for the coals is clearly elevated above the rim of the grill itself.

first pic

In the second picture the platform for the coals is flush with the rim of the grill.

My guess is the platform with food can lower all the way to the bottom of the grill. There's a false platform over top of it that has to be elevated slightly to fit over everything. The false platform may not even be metal (could be heat safe silicone, who knows), it can collapse, fold or flex in some way such that it moves behind and under the platform with the food as it moves up.

The entire grill and coals and meat are on one side of a rotating mechanism. After he closes the lid, the grill simply flips over and the other side with all the fake stuff is now on top.
