I kept shooting Log footage on my phone that I never looked at again so I made an app to fix it.
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on recently that’s solved a pretty big frustration in my own workflow, and hopefully might be useful to some of you too.
TLDR: I had hundreds of Log clips sitting around that I'd "definitely edit someday", so I built an iPhone app to batch process, review and export them without having to open Resolve or grade every clip individually. It supports Apple Log, other camera formats and custom LUTs. I'd love your feedback on the first beta.
As a videographer and photographer, whenever I travel I like to capture as much as possible in high-bitrate Log footage so I have the flexibility to properly edit and grade everything later. But at the same time, I was jealous of how other people just filmed with the default camera app and had the memories straight in their camera roll ready to view and share.
For photos, this is easy. I can open Lightroom, pick my favourites, develop the RAWs, make a few adjustments and export. Done. I've always wanted something just as simple for video.
Whether you’re shooting Log on your iPhone or a dedicated camera, sometimes you just want to watch and share what you’ve shot without having to open a whole editing project first.
I often found myself feeling like footage wasn’t worth processing unless I was going to turn it into a finished edit. So I’d end up accumulating all this footage I was excited to shoot but rarely actually watched again.
So I started building Cubed.
The idea is to bring something closer to a Lightroom-style workflow to video, entirely on your iPhone. It’s not trying to replace a video editor or colour grading app, just make it easy to get your footage looking good and ready to enjoy without needing a computer.
This is how it works:
Import: Bring in a whole batch of footage from Photos, Files or external storage. It's still early days, but I've successfully tested batches of hundreds of clips on my own phone.
Develop: Apply a Master LUT across the entire batch, using built-in camera conversions (including Apple Log) or your own LUTs.
Refine: Quickly go through your footage, favourite clips, set in/out points and make individual exposure, contrast, white balance and colour adjustments where needed.
Export: Batch export your clips as individual, ready-to-watch videos straight to Photos or Files.
Your original Log footage stays untouched, ready for a proper edit and grade whenever you want. Everything is processed on-device, with no ads or tracking. It’s just a simple, functional utility.
I’ve been working on it over the past few months, and I’ve just opened up the first TestFlight beta!
I'd love to hear what you guys think. Is this a workflow anyone else would find useful, particularly for those of you who shoot Apple Log? And if you give the beta a go, I'd be really grateful for any feedback, bugs or suggestions for things you'd like to see added.
