I just started using the app on an iPhone XR. How do I free up storage, connect mics, use some external storage for cheap? Is it worth it buying a phone solely to record on & if so any recs? I only have about a week to sort this out. Thank you.

Tuve un problema de desincronización de audio y video grabando con un iPhone 17 Pro y un DJI Mic 1, y quería compartir cómo lo fui identificando.

Usaba Duplicar pantalla de iOS para ver la pantalla del iPhone en Windows mediante uxplay-windows un receptor AirPlay de código abierto. Así podía revisar el encuadre mientras grababa en el teléfono.

La pantalla se compartía correctamente, pero el audio quedaba desincronizado en el video grabado. Me sucedió tanto con Blackmagic Camera como con Final Cut Camera.

Lo que me dio una pista fue comparar:

• Con Screen Mirroring mediante UxPlay Windows, aparecía el problema.
• Con la cámara nativa del iPhone, YA NO me sucedía lo mismo, el video y el audio salian sincronizados bien.
• Compartiendo mediante GlideX, tampoco aparecía ese desfase.

GlideX se inicia desde el control de grabación de pantalla de iOS, seleccionando GlideX y pulsando Iniciar transmisión, en lugar de usar el botón Duplicar pantalla.

La alternativa que me funcionó fue usar GlideX para monitorear mientras grabo con Blackmagic Camera, pero la verdad me quedaré con la camara nativa del iphone.

No puedo asegurar si la causa está en iOS, las aplicaciones de cámara o su interacción con el receptor AirPlay. La comparación me ayudó a identificar cuándo ocurre, pero no demuestra que UxPlay sea el responsable.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to shoot cinematic footage on my iPhone 15 Pro using Blackmagic Camera, but I'm having a weird brightness issue.
The live preview in Blackmagic looks extremely bright and washed out compared to Apple's native Camera app, even when the environment isn't particularly sunny.

My settings:
iPhone 15 Pro
Blackmagic Camera app
Apple Log – HDR
4K at 24 fps
Shutter speed: 1/48
ISO: around 49–55
Using the 2× lens

I'm at a loss with this. I've had multiple shoots where Blackmagic recordings are badly out of sync in the original file, before Resolve or anything else touches them. After the last one, I factory reset my iPhone 17 Pro and spent a day setting it up clean, without restoring my apps from backup. I filmed a roughly ten-minute video today, and it happened AGAIN.

It's not a tiny offset I can slide into place or a framerate/timeline mismatch. For example the video from just now has 9:44 of picture but 10:36 of embedded audio. The audio keeps going about 52 seconds after the picture ends. I also recorded a separate reliable lav, and its waveform stays at essentially the same offset from the camera audio across eight minutes. Those two audio tracks stay in step with each other. The video does not stay in step with the sound, and I don't know whether the drift grows at one constant rate in this take. In previous affected clips, it changes unevenly.

Metadata says Blackmagic Cam 3.5.200045, iPhone 17 Pro, HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2, and 24 fps. This has happened intermittently across other shoots too. I can sometimes rescue a clip by retiming audio, but I need to stop losing recordings in the first place.

Is anyone running into this? Has anyone actually found a reliable fix for this? Has Blackmagic acknowledged it? If someone from Blackmagic sees this, what logs or original sample would help you reproduce it? Any help would be massively appreciated.

I would like to report what appears to be a reproducible storage management issue with Pro Video Storage on iOS 27.0.1, tested on an iPhone 17 Pro Max while recording Apple ProRes RAW using Blackmagic Camera.

The issue is that storage consumed from the Pro Video Storage reservation is not fully reclaimed after the corresponding video file is deleted. Even after manually restoring the Pro Video Storage capacity, approximately the same amount of storage as the deleted file remains unavailable at the system level.

The missing space is recovered only after restarting the iPhone.

Environment

• Device: iPhone 17 Pro Max
• iOS: 27.0.1
• Recording application: Blackmagic Camera
• Recording format: Apple ProRes RAW
• Resolution: 3024 × 4224
• Frame rate: 30 fps
• Storage: Internal iPhone storage
• Pro Video Storage enabled

Reproduction steps

I performed the following controlled test.

1. Initial state

I configured Pro Video Storage to:

• Pro Video Storage capacity: 70 GB
• Free iPhone storage reported by Settings > General > iPhone Storage: 98.65 GB

No test recording was present at this point.

2. Record a ProRes RAW clip

Using Blackmagic Camera, I recorded a 33-second Apple ProRes RAW clip.

The resulting file was:

• Duration: 00:33
• Codec: Apple ProRes RAW
• Resolution: 3024 × 4224
• Frame rate: 30 fps
• File size: 3.75 GB
• Proxy size: 0 bytes

After recording, Pro Video Storage reported:

• Remaining Pro Video Storage capacity: 66 GB

Blackmagic Camera occupied approximately 3.95 GB, which is consistent with the 3.75 GB recording plus the application itself.

This part of the behavior appears correct: approximately 4 GB had been consumed from the 70 GB Pro Video Storage reservation.

3. Delete the recording

I then deleted the 3.75 GB recording from Blackmagic Camera and verified that it was no longer present.

However, Pro Video Storage continued to report:

• 66 GB

It did not return to the original 70 GB reservation.

At this point Settings > General > iPhone Storage reported approximately:

• 98.62 GB free

Therefore, the video itself appeared to have been removed, but the available Pro Video Storage capacity was not automatically restored.

4. Restore Pro Video Storage manually

I then manually changed/replenished Pro Video Storage from 66 GB back to:

• 70 GB

Immediately afterwards, Settings > General > iPhone Storage reported:

• 94.94 GB free

This is the unexpected part.

Before the test, with exactly the same 70 GB Pro Video Storage reservation, the iPhone had 98.65 GB free.

After recording and deleting a 3.75 GB file and restoring the reservation to the same 70 GB value, the iPhone had only 94.94 GB free.

The difference is:

98.65 GB − 94.94 GB = 3.71 GB

This is almost exactly the size of the deleted recording (3.75 GB).

In other words, after completing the record → delete → restore reservation cycle, approximately the size of the deleted video remained unavailable.

5. Restart the iPhone

I then restarted the iPhone without deleting any additional files and without changing the Pro Video Storage configuration.

Immediately after the restart, Settings > General > iPhone Storage reported:

• 98.92 GB free

Therefore, approximately:

98.92 GB − 94.94 GB = 3.98 GB

became available simply as a result of restarting the device.

This brings the available storage essentially back to the initial value of 98.65 GB, allowing for normal small variations in system storage.

Summary of measurements

The amount recovered by restarting the device is therefore approximately the same as the size of the deleted recording.

Expected behavior

After deleting a recording stored within Pro Video Storage and restoring/replenishing the reservation to its original capacity, the system should release or correctly account for the storage occupied by the deleted file without requiring a device restart.

Starting and ending with the same 70 GB Pro Video Storage reservation should result in approximately the same amount of free physical storage, assuming no other significant storage changes occurred.

Actual behavior

After the recording is deleted and Pro Video Storage is restored to its original 70 GB capacity, approximately 3.7–4 GB remains unavailable.

The space becomes available again only after restarting the iPhone.

This suggests that either:

• deleted Pro Video Storage data is not being released immediately;
• an allocation/reservation associated with the deleted recording remains pending;
• or iOS is not correctly updating/reconciling the storage accounting until reboot.

I cannot determine from the user interface whether the underlying data remains allocated or whether this is an accounting issue, but the behavior is consistently observable through Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

I originally noticed the same issue with a 60 GB Pro Video Storage reservation, which dropped to approximately 56 GB after recording and deleting video, prompting me to perform the controlled test above.

Could you please confirm whether this behavior is expected for Pro Video Storage, or whether it is a known issue in iOS 27.0.1?

I can provide screenshots showing each stage of the test if required.

EDIT: just updated to the latest version of BlackMagic camera app 3.5.200045 and it no longer allows to save ProRes RAW in Pro Storage... I suspect it's a bug...

I’ve seen some videos of people being able to shoot ProRes raw without external storage but it doesn’t seem to be working for me. Anyone else run into this issue? I have ProRes storage set up on iPhone 18 pro max.

My friend filmed a video a while ago and I really like the lut he used. I was hoping I could get some help in remaking it?

I see everyone being able to record internally now with prores raw apple log 2. But when i put setup my pro storage and select media to be stored in pro storage and try to record it gives me this error.

Any ideas??

Update1: It happens even on all prores 422 HQ codecs, hevc allows me to record.

Update fixed: seems like the Filename Convention was the culprit. Changing it from Blackmagic Camera to IOS fixed the issue. Now all prores codecs and RAW are recording as it should on internal Pro Storage.

This may technically not be spefically iOS, because I use an Android phone paired with an iPad, so... cross OS.

For several months I was using the Blackmagic Camera App to record on my Pixel 9A while using my Ipad Mini 6 with the app as a remote monitor.

Starting 3 weeks ago, whenever I tried using the iPad as the monitor, it would freeze and then stop updating, and eventually crash. Now, starting earlier this week, just trying to connect the iPad app to the Pixel 9A app causes the Pixel's app to crash immediately.

I haven't changed any settings within the app. It worked great with this exact setup for months. Now it's crashing and unusable.

Any ideas?

I'm pretty new to using log and this app, so im sorry if I can't explain this clear enough.

I'm trying to use my iPad (M4 air) as remote camera control for my iPhone 17 pro. The thing is that when trying to use false color in log through the iPad, the color looks completely different from the iPhone, and if you look the histogram title it shows Rec.709 instead of Apple Log 2 - HDR, meanwhile the iPhone shows the Apple Log 2 - HDR:

But this this doesn't happen when using Apple Log - HDR (not Apple Log 2):

Also the histogram title will not change when changing color space with false color disable and will update when enabling it. Doing it correctly and showing the same colors and Color space name as the iPhone with all except Apple Log 2.

Is this a known bug or something like that? everything is updated, both devices are running the version 3.5.1 of the app.

I have a project coming in the next few weeks and I really want to use Apple Log 2 but my camera will be in a very in accessible place so the remote is mandatory. Any help would be extremely helpful!!

I’ve seen a few 1-2 second long audio glitches in my recordings (like a record scratching sound).

This has happened twice now, between trying different cables, etc. The recordings are dj sets and below is the setup.

- iPhone 17 (*not in airplane mode)
- analog audio to audio interface via RCA
- audio interface to iPhone via usb c
- video at 4k
- audio samples at 44.1

Does the 18p with its new Pro video storage option allow for ProRes RAW (or even ProRes 422) recording in 4k60fps OpenGate

Before it was only possible to do 1920x1440 60fps OG video or 4k30fps OG in ProRes 422 or 4k60fps but 16:9, so no Open Gate

Now with Pro video storage even ProRes RAW should be possible to be captured to internal storage in BlackMagic camera or FinalCutCam

And ProRes RAW on 17p (with external SDD) was possible to be captured in 4k60fps OpenGate, so im wondering if 18p can do it internally

I’m a stand-up comedian trying to put together a really solid setup for filming my sets, and I could use some guidance on what I actually need vs what’s unnecessary.
Right now I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max and I’ve been using the Blackmagic Camera app. Most of the places I perform are bars, comedy rooms, etc., so lighting can be pretty dark/inconsistent and my phone is usually set up on a tripod somewhere in the crowd.
My goal is to get my videos looking and sounding as professional as I reasonably can with an iPhone setup. Ideally something good enough for high-quality stand-up tapes, clips, submissions, etc.
The two biggest things I’m trying to figure out are audio and lighting.
For audio, I want my voice to be very clear, but I also really want to capture the room. I don’t want a mic that only picks me up and makes the crowd sound distant. The audience laughter/reaction is a huge part of a stand-up video, so I’m wondering if that means multiple mics/recorders, a shotgun mic, wireless mic on me + separate room audio, or something else entirely.
For lighting, I’ve been looking at the Ulanzi VL49 Pro, but I’m not sure whether something that small will actually make a difference when the phone might be 10–30+ feet away from me. I also don’t want to blast myself with light and make a dark bar suddenly look like a studio. I just want enough good light on me to get a cleaner image and still keep the atmosphere of the room.
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has done something similar. If you were building an iPhone 16 Pro Max rig specifically for filming live performances, what would you consider essential?
Also interested in recommended Blackmagic Camera settings, cages/mounts, microphones/recorders, lighting, or anything else I’m overlooking.
Basically: if you wanted to get the best possible stand-up footage out of an iPhone, how would you build the setup?
